New civic 2017+ which one to get: 1.5 or 1.0 litre turbo?
Discussion
I've been reading around, and I'm getting a general sense that for some reason the 1.5 is just as economical, if not, more economical at motorway speeds compared to the 1 litre version?
However there are oil diultion issues with the 1.5 litre engines isn't there? Or is that just a problem with very cold countries? It looks like Honda has stopped the 1.5 litre production for now as I went to their website and the 1.5 litre engine option is now greyed out across all the civic range?
Also keen to get one in black so it looks clean (I think it hides the fake vents and stuff).

1.5 every time. Had 2 1.0's and one 1.5 over the last 3 years - wife works for Honda. Wouldn't have had any of the 1.0's if the 1.5 was available to her every time she had to change cars.
1.0 - max revs very low for a petrol and this could be frustrating trying to make progress. Must also have a heavy fly wheel as the "rev hang" was shocking - so very little in the way of engine breaking available. If does have a deeper boot than most 1.5's due to their central exhausts (except Prestige model).
1.5 has a near 50% horsepower advantage and it shows. Just a nicer engine all round - revs properly, no issues with hitting the limiter and it does hang on to the revs. Usefully quicker. I imagine running costs would be similar - they both have the same size tyres for example. 1.5 also has LED headlamps that are a big improvement - the halogens are fine but like all LED's they are on a different level again. Comparable trim levels - SR and Sport I think - had everything you needed but 1.5 has red background lighting to Instrument panel whereas 1.0 is blue and is easier on the eyes. 1.5 also had a subtle body kit.
Bizarrely both 1.0's had an irritating issue of the front parking sensors going off in the wet but the 1.5 never suffered with this.
Never had any serious issues with any of the current generation Civic's as we didn't keep them longer than 15 months. Oil consumption was never an issue.
I recently considered buying a 1.5 Civic with our own money - I would not consider buying the 1.0. And yes, fuel economy is the same on both - trashing the 1.0 to go anywhere defeats the object of the smaller engine.

I got a 2020 1.5 Sport.
It’s great to drive and really has lot of equipment. I like it a lot. I get 55mpg with 50% motorway and A-roads but tend to keep within speed limits and use ACC on the motorway all the time. I can’t see how you would get less than 45mpg.
I had lots of German cars with a lot of power but find this 1.5 a little joy to drive, mine is manual.
