I have a 2002 S2 (second hand) which has always had a bad battery drain. Sometimes its like not even two weeks of not driving ut and the battery is drained so the cars won't start.

Anyone else had this with their S2?

Is it something that is easily fixed, or an expensive diagnostic job at a garage/dealer?

I believe that model year has the infamous “Hamilton and Palmer” alarm/immobiliser which may be causing this. Alternatively a tracker may still be connected or one of the courtesy light switches stuck.

If you have a look on the s2ki forums you’ll find hints and tips but it’s going to be a case of trial and error. Paying someone to trouble shoot it for you might work but could get expensive.

If I were you I’d connect an ammeter to be able to measure the current drain, then start by pulling fuses one by one to identify the cause. If none of them make any difference it’s probably something aftermarket (like a tracker or possibly stereo).

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply.

Sounds a bit complicated!
I'll just have to pay a garage to do it.

Mine will also not last 2 weeks, but I've always considered it normal. I could be wrong of course. They only have a 50Ah battery after all. I have a little Ring Automotive solar panel that I've mounted to the roof of my garage (there's no power in my garage as it's "en bloc"). I leave the panel permanently hooked up to the battery. So far so good after 2.5 weeks, and I've started it once as well. It cost about £20. I'd suggest getting the next one up in the range though - about £40 - just to be sure.
