Evening guys. My Mrs has just won a DC5 on Dreamcar Giveaways which we picked up today. We live in the Notts/Lincoln area and we’re looking for recommendations for someone to look after it. Who are people using for work on there DC5.

Unfortunately it’s been de-catted and a straight through 3” exhaust fitted. It’s far too loud and the drone is so bad I had to stop on the way home to try and find ear plugs (resulted in tissue in the end). So I’m looking for an OEM cat or suggestions for a sports cat (eml is also on).

It also has bilstein coilovers on it. I’ve yet to see if there adjustable but if not then with UK roads it’s going to need a softer setup on it. Again anybody got only suggestions.

On exhausts and decats etc, be aware there "may" be a difference between UK and JDM.

I know for sure there is on the DC2, but not owned a DC5... (yet?)

All DC5 are JDM wink

Great looking car. The exhaust is easily solved but going OEM or for a much quieter aftermarket, strange that someone has fitted a 3” to an NA car (each to their own I suppose!)

Nice of them to give you a car with an EML on too, you’d think that would be sorted!!

Yeah the exhaust is just way too loud. I imagine a cat and maybe a mid-pipe silencer might work with the rest straight through.

As for the eml I thought it was a bit of a let down, bit cheep skate of them not to fix it before handover. It had the eml light on when they bought it as I found the previous owner through the eBay add. I know it’s a free car and all that but it’s clearly had a dodgy mot done on it.

Anyway no more complaining. From now on it’s solutions being documented.

Any idea what’s causing the EML? Possible the lack of cat as the DC5 runs a wideband o2 sensor unlike the EP3 etc that only run narrowband.

You’d probably do alright selling the exhaust that’s on it and getting another one sorted tbh. Is it branded at all?

You can check the engine code by using a piece of wire to connect two pins on the OBD. Can't remember which but you should be able to find it with google.

It will probably be the sensor if there isn't one fitted, but o2 sensors are a common failure on these cars. Honda wanted £250 off me for one, but I ended up importing one from the US for £130 iirc.

I'd also check the spare wheel well for water/rust, as water leaking through the tail light seals is also very common.

Good budget way to go is an unsilenced mid pipe (EP3 ones fit) with a factory cat and OEM backbox.

One of the guys on the owners group is bound to have a factory exhaust kicking about, and the unsilenced mid pipe gives a nice burble without being antisocial and stupid.... the cold idle sounds great.

Somehow I have ended up with two threads going on about this. One in readers cars and one in the Honda section. To tidy it all up here’s a link to the readers cars thread. All updates will be in that thread.
