Hi,
might be an obvious answer, for those that know, but that obviously isn't me. spin

I remember on S2000 that the hood is vinyl, but is this still the case with the Nurburgring blue model?

Thanks.

ALL S2000 fabric roofs were made of the same (vinyl) material.
Just a thought - owners seeking to replace a roof with a mohair one because it has a more luxurious appearance soon regretted it the first time they activated the folding mechanism because of the increase bulk of a mohair hood it did not fold very flat & thus looked untidy. Mohair hoods also crease & mark easily.

Thanks for your reply.

I'm not a fan of mohair and double-duck hoods personally either. I like practicality over posing.

This blue hood is on a very original and low mileage S2000 so the roof is in good condition but has a build up of 15+ years contaminant despite being cleaned and garaged all its life.

I’ve got a ‘99 S2000 with what I think is the original vinyl roof. It’s definitely had a replacement flexible rear screen in the past but nothing in the history about the hood.
To be honest, given frequency with which S2000 hoods seem to tear I’m going to leave mine be. I hadn’t heard about the problem with mohair but it makes sense as the wear/tear on S2000 hoods is often from abrasion on the frame, or folding low down behind the door.

There are a number of specialist compounds to deep clean & re-proof a roof - the owners club or simply Googling is your answer.
Yes they do wear at a specific point & additional material can be added to protect - again the OC has the answers.

Thanks.

As long as I know the roof material I can sort cleaning and reproofing it to a reasonable standard, it doesn't need to be, and won't be concours or extreme-detailing standards.

It's not my car just doing it as a favour to a mate (that for various reasons wouldn't join the owner's club or share much expense on the car).
