Thinkin gabout picking up a 05 but not sure about this generation of CVT.

They are sturdy enough for the torque of the engine and weight of the car, but for pedantrys sake theyre not realy CVT. They changed the calibration after customer complaints that it felt 'weird'

new calibration will rev upto a point and hold that rpm until you close the throttle and reopen it (as you would during a gearchange) to let the gearbox select the next 'ratio'

the job of a CVT is to Constantly Vary to allow the engine to remain at or between peak torque and peak power at all times to maximise BSFC.

the average motorist is the lowest common denominator, and as such are too stupid to understand BSFC vs road speed vs tractive effort vs torque curve and the different methods of taking drive from the output shaft to the tyre.

its the same problem that took away our handbrakes and manuals - the demands of the stupid 'appliance' motorists.
