Tonight I just noticed a strange noise, twice.
Driving through some reasonably deep standing water, after going through it and testing my brakes, there was a very loud squeal sounding like it was from the rear driver side. I assumed this was the brakes? I know it has had new rear pads, the discs are still okay as well. I’ve driving through standing water before and never heard this, so to hear it twice in one journey is a bit concerning.

Any ideas what it could be? It was really high pitched and only lasted for 2 seconds really.

It did it again this morning. No pressure on the brake pedal, sounds like a belt squeal actually. It had a new aux belt a month ago!
The car also smelt very hot for a brief few seconds when I got out of it this morning, may be unrelated though

Was going to say, It sounds like an aux belt.

If it's the k20 engine you can check the pointer and marker on the auto tensioner to check belt tension.

Google will be your friend here.

It is the k20 engine.

Could it be that the tensioner is at fault and the belt is slightly too loose? I thought these had an auto tensioner which can't be adjusted? I'll have a look later.

Sorry for the awful photo, but here is a photo of the tensioner, to my eye it looks slightly out? I may be wrong though...

Photo was taken with the car running, so obviously I had to be a bit careful!
