Strange Howling Noise - 2011 Civic (Mk8)

A howling noise, that happened when the car was moving forward, maybe a metal on metal sound. Doesn't happen in reverse or in idle. I think In gear, coasting or clutch down was all the same. However it's stopped now.
I've got a good local indy who'll probably sort it for me in the week. But I'm curious and need to decide whether to drive it there or make arrangements to be picked up.
Anybody heard anything like that before?
