Hi, looking to buy cheap old CRV and i am struggling to get specific info for the UK models, keep getting us stuff?

OK, got about £5000 to spend i want petrol top spec. "EX" i believe, also if possible to get engine that has both cams with variable valve timing. "If this is possible what year were they introduced and would a 2.0 or a 2.5 be best to get. I am not a speed merchant as i have motorbike for that so more interested in reliability and mpg.

Also can you tell me if these engines have cam chain or belt.

Thanks, any help would speed up my search

For a UK car your only petrol option is a 2.0 148bhp unit.

you will struggle to get a 'cheap' mk2 for £5k. they have got a bit of a cult following. decent ones definitely in demand. my one was written off a year ago by a knob looking at his phone. i gave up trying to source another one as good as mine as prices climbed 1k like for like. i remember i paid £6750 fora diesel manual with 18k on the clock. not to be repeated frown

2.0 petrol is ok. can be thirsty. diesel is tough as old boots

Yep, 2nd gen petrols have a K20A, 3rd gen a R20A. Both chain rather than belt. US and elsewhere got the 2.4, we didn't.

They are a bit thirsty but very reliable. My dad had a couple of petrol CRVs (2nd then 3rd gen), both petrols, was super happy with them. I bought my Stepwgn (with a K20A) on the back of that experience.

I had a 2010 2.0 litre auto T pack (uK)and at best the car was returning 32 mpg but never let me down.

To be fair, my 2008 2.2 diesel CRV only manages that MPG on the usage we give it.

The R20A is a SOHC apparently because it gives more torque at lower revs which would suit the CRV more. I would strongly advise manual.

2.0 Petrol in mine manual gearbox with LPG. 186k miles and still going strong. I also have an Accord with 2.0 petrol and LPG. Both excellent if mundane cars. Accord does about 65 miles to a gallon on LPG(price equivalent on petrol). CRV does less but its still 58 MPG to the gallon on LPG. Avoid Diesels unless you like fitting new clutches.
