Well,

Ive grown bored of my ultra reliable Avensis 1.8 Auto but have had a low miles 2008 2.4 EX GT Tourer with many, many gizmos on it come on the radar so Ive bought it!. That really wasn't meant to happen!!

Anyway, deposit paid for unseen car other than as it appeared on the dealer website. Collect end of September. So am now looking for reassurance its a sensible move smile

Well, it will be more exciting to drive and as a general rule the engines of Hondas are more refined and better designed than the Toyota offerings. The Accord you mention is supposed to be very very smooth to drive, and although the suspension is probably not as uber-robust as the Toyota it is probably going to give you a better ride. I don't think swapping the two cars is a big risk ...

Good choice. smile

I have had our 2003 accord tourer 2.4 type S since new. Yes, that’s 16 years folks! Almost unheard of.

Lovely car to drive. Economy is not that good tbh. Very low 30’s, but very reliable.

Make sure everything works on it, especially the remotely opening tailgate. Broken wires where the tailgate hinges, are a common problem.

Ty all.

As reliable as the Avensis is, there was no joy with the 1.8 and cvt auto box! I am not ruling out an LPG conversion if I like it and then keep it for a long time. Having dog and teenage son means estate still works the best. Having read all the reviews, its funny how the new style was slated back in 2008 but all 2nd hand car reports give it nothing but thumbs up.

I've had both mk7 & 8 Accord Tourers, great cars, the mk8 especially.

Mine was a diesel ES GT and was faultless, poor headlights though.

That was my conclusion; next step is an LPG fit and see how many years it will run!

Nice car, is it auto or manual? I had a 7th gen one and the Vtec engaged at 6,000rpm, loved the engine note change.

I believe the 8th gen are independent at the rear abs double wishbone at the front, so it's a nice setup.

its a 2.4 manual which ive realised is quite rare and possibly more desirable as a second hand car. I collect it next Monday and hopefully LPG it over the coming month.

One query I do have, will the 8th Gen (2008 model) run on 18 inches? It has the more common 17 inch wheels on right now but ive found some Deltas I quite like the look of.

I think the Type S came with an 18 inch wheel option. If you run the reg on this through blackcircles it lists a 225 45 18 as the standard tyre..

thats the thing the 2008 gen 8 type s diesel has made me query whether the 2.4 petrol can take 18's as i know it could take them, weirdly.

the honda garage near me was clueless as well!

Certainly set it off. Pig to clean though. Curious whether any of the newer Honda wheels would fit, some nice designs on Civics / CRVs with fewer spokes!

Ive found a guy selling a set but won't go below £600. They have been restored, powdercoated etc but come with different tyres which doesn't appeal to me as Id likely stick a new set of boots on. he's also rather cocky in his pm's to me telling me to go away and save which sort of puts me off as well! smile

The market for these can't be that big, I'd be put off too.

Well,

First proper drive in the car and i am very impressed how a car made in 2008 handles so well today. It does help that its got almost brand new Michelin Crossclimates. I can feel the front wheel bias but in a good way. The engine is a peach. I didn't expect the subtle growl from it either. Overall, Im glad its manual and not auto as the VTEC embraces a thrashing!

Jobs to do:

- black paint work; nuff said! several side panels need a respray and the whole car a machine polish
- central console wood effect stuff looks to be in trouble, no idea why, but replacement bits needed.
- am fighting an impulse to get the wheels sprayed rose gold colour, plus the front grill....any views??
- whole interior needs a deep clean
- LPG conversion

Overall, really lovely car and very happy with it.

Dudley, did the 18's make a noticeable difference to handling? I have a chance of buying a NOS Le Mans 17 inch set which are quite nice.
