My 77 y/o Dad is away in the US and received an email over the weekend saying Honda Bracknell was closing due to restructuring, and to contact Honda Reading for any requirements.

My Dads 65 plate Civic had its MOT booked in at Bracknell for next Tuesday, but obviously he now needs to rebook this to the next nearest Honda garage, which he believes to be Reading.

Being out of this country and 77, he's a little flustered by this, so I've tried calling Reading Honda on his behalf but get either an engaged tone, or other numbers listed are 'no longer working'.

Does anyone know if Reading Honda is open?.....

I believe Reading are open, I saw a post on FB with someone in a similar position and they booked in at Reading. I suspect they've been busy with a lot of phonecalls. Reading will also collect from Bracknell I believe.

Thanks, I've tried Reading all day and just get an engaged tone, but other numbers I have tried are dead...?

I've spoken to Fleet Honda, who had heard the Bracknell were gone and are under the assumption Reading may be too / soon to be?

I used to have a Honda and received a letter today saying that the Bracknell dealership no longer holds the Honda Franchise. I live relatively close so I just popped down and the dealership is still trading but as a Jardine Select used car dealers. No idea about serving but if it continues it will be as an independent. EDIT just to add I don't think Reading will be affected as it's owned by a different group these days, Marshall instead of Jardine Motors. They did used to be the same which is why everyone was assuming both were going but I don't think that's the case now.

Apparently McLaren Ascot are having something to do with the Bracknell site, taking over the service bays I believe.

Quite a number of Honda dealers seem to be closing - I guess they're really struggling.

Mind you, I tried to call 'ours' yesterday, Cheshire Oaks Honda just outside Chester. Tried morning and afternoon and the phone (main number) rang for ages with no-one answering. Got through the 3rd time. The dealer has been useless since they took over the franchise after two excellent independant local dealers got canned when Honda had delusions of doubling their sales.

Honda UK isn't the company it was, either - I can't see us having another one (got two in the extended family at the moment, both of which I bought new).

I just saw it pointed out elsewhere that the head office of Honda Motors Europe is in Bracknell.

Perhaps they didn't use the local dealer very much!

Why does it need to be MOT'd at a Honda garage?

I have seen it suggested that they might as well pull out of Europe. Apparently UK accounts for most of their sales, and the number here is half what they wanted it to be.

Apparently they're going to go down to 100 dealers as they just don't have to volume to support more. Must admit it's long baffled me how our local glass palace Honda dealer keeps going. https://www.am-online.com/news/latest-news/2019/06...

He sounds like a PITA, getting in a flap about an MOT whilst on holiday, and having you running around trying to find an alternative Honda garage when it could in fact be MOT'd anywhere. I would help him out - by getting it MOT'd myself at a local centre.

I think he seems to be a wise gent who likes to have his car maintained by a franchised dealer. When looking for a used car, that's the type of previous owner that would sway me into buying. Good for him, he likes to get things done properly.

It could be MOT'd anywhere but a lot of Hondas are sold with 5yrs service and warranty - if that's the case it'd be as well to get it done at the dealer.

Plus if it's his only car he's probably not used to using other garages - just bangs it into the dealer every year. Mind you, reading the article I linked to, a lot of people are going to have to find a new dealer! Honda is brilliant at finding ways to ps off its loyal customer base.

There is of course Maidenhead Honda in Littlewick Green.

Not a million miles away and easy to get to from the M4 / A404 / A4

Never had a Honda so have not used them but have driven past many times.

Cant say I'm surprised, I wanted to test drive the Civic type R and was told by Swindon (neither Newbury or Reading had a demo) that I could drive it on the industrial estate about 400 yards but no further as they didnt want the mileage to go up too much !

No, it's now a Jardine Used site, all signs of Honda (apart from a couple of used ones) have gone.
