I’m getting the timing chain and tensioner changed on an EP3. The garage reckon that they have to drain the oil and change it as part of the job.

This doesn’t sound right to me? Can anyone shed any light if this would be needed to change a timing chain?

Isn't the oil pump driven by the chain (possibly an additional small one). This will need the sump removed, hence the oil replacement wink

I would want to change my oil anyway, it lubricates the timing chain and Honda's love fresh oil anyway.

It is always good practice to change oil/filter after doing internal engine work on any car..

I would be giving him an OEM Honda filter, 5L of oil and a tube of Honda Bond if I was getting it done.
