Hi guys,

I went to the rolling road Dynamo place at Rufforth Air Field and they tried to stage 1 map my car however he said the ECU was old and he didn't have the protocol to do it.

Anyone know the best place (apart from TDI North) that I can get my FN2 remapped at in and around the Harrogate / York / Leeds area?

First of all, forget all the "stage" stuff, stage 1 is not a real thing... "Stage" mapping seems to be common with VAG cars, e.g. buy this intercooler, intake and then upload this "Stage 1" map, whereas this doesn’t really exist in the Honda scene.

I’m not 100% sure, but I think you can either have your stock ECU flash mapped, TDI north do this using ECUTEK software I believe, or you need to buy a K100/Kpro board which needs to be added to your ECU to allow it to be tuned.

Have a search for Race Dyno Tuning (RDT) in Doncaster, highly recommend Will who runs the place, he will be able to answer your questions

As above, ignore ‘stage’ stuff.

Really it’s not worth getting a standard FN2 mapped at all, you will gain hardly anything.

If you want to make any difference, you need a manifold, decat, exhaust and a (decent) induction kit. The FN2 is slightly better than the earlier cars because you don’t need to actually modify or ‘chip’ the Ecu, you can use Flashpro from Hondata (https://www.cplracing.co.uk/products/hondata-flashpro-honda-civic-type-r-fn2-jdm-civic-type-r-fd2) but you’re going to be looking at the £2k mark (probably) for all of the above inc mapping.

I would spend the money elsewhere. The bhp/£ ratio simply isn't the same for N/A as it is with forced induction.

That money would be better spent on handling upgrades and driver training. Going fast in a straight line gets boring quickly, going fast around corner never gets old biggrin

The only benefits to be had from mapping a stock car are:

Multiple maps (1 for economy for example)
Lower VTEC engagement (although the stock crossover point is already pretty spot on)
A slight increase in mid range torque

This also assumes either Ecutek software or a flashpro, I'm not sure on the price of the Ecutek maps but a flashpro is around 500 quid alone without a map. If you're chasing big power with an NA engine you need deep pockets frown .

Depending on the dyno (let's swiftly move past the claims of high readings from TDI north's dyno boxedin ), a good cold air intake & cat back exhaust will get you in the region of around 210-220hp with a map.
