Honda accord estate

Looking to spend on a reliable estate. Looking for petrol 3-6k is the 2.4 OK? More concerned with durability although a comfy thing would be good. Prefer auto but a decent manual is also fine.
The 2.4 is a great and near bulletproof engine but it doesn't suit an auto. Executive trim is best in order to get those exceptional leather seats. ninjag said:

Good that's the sort of info I need.

Clutch release bearing can squeal when engaging up a steep hill at low speed. Comes and goes but doesn't effect operation. I put it down to an inherent design fault. Other than that pretty much nothing. Vtec engages at 6000rpm so test to make sure its all good. You'll hear the engine note change.Any achilles heels to look out for, or just the usual old car stuff?
Oh and only use good 0W20 oil.
We have an 05 2.4 estate exec.auto.
It's brilliant.
Comfy, loads of room, quiet, decent cruiser. I added a box to the audio for iphone connection to get music from my phone.
Had it 2 years, been to Scotland fully loaded (I mean fully - 2 teenage kids, gear for 4 for a week on Skye, 2 guitars, an amp, a ukulele...) Took it all in its stride.. Cruised up the M5/M6/M74 in quiet comfort. We've done university runs to Sheffield, tip runs, shopping, commuting to work. Does all I want it to. The wheel arches do eat into the boot space, so although it's big, it's not quite as huge as you might think if you want to move wardrobes etc.
Get around 320 miles to a tank, more if we're on a long run. Haven't calculated what MPG this might be, as I think the answer will be a bit scary, not that I care, as I like the car so much.
Have to disagree with the poster above that the auto doesn't suit it, I find it smooth and pleasant to drive. The engine is happy to be worked hard, even sounds pretty good when VTEC kicks in...
No-one pays it a second glance, can leave it anywhere, totally anonymous.
Paid top money for it (£3400) but it had less than 50k and had been one family owned and they'd taken it to Honda for everything in its life. Had to replace one brake caliper and the original exhaust rusted through (after 14 years, tsk!) - other than that it's just been routine servicing. I had it undersealed last year and will need to deal with a tiny bit of rust around a rear arch this year.
Cheap, relaxed, comfy motoring. I love it!

0W20 oil?? I've used 10W40 for the past 120k and don't burn a drop. Would 0W20 not be too thin?Oh and only use good 0W20 oil.
I've run a 2.4 Type S (Saloon) for the last 6-7 years, bought with 121k and ran upto 277k until one of the big end bearings started to sound unhealthy.
No major engine issues in that time, but drive shafts like to snap. If there's a vibration at a certain speed under heavy acceleration chances are it's a drive shaft.
Seized rear calipers are another common issue.
I put a bigger list of stuff I've had on another thread https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
