Evening,

Picked this up last week, a 1999 Civic EK4 vti vtec with the 1600 b16a2 (I think?) engine.

Two owner circa 86k and been really well looked after every MOT and tax disc I've never had a Honda before but always fancied ticking a vtec off my list.

Just doing a few basic checks before I start using it and getting to know the old girl.

Don't know a huge amount about the vti vtec so any info would be appreciated impulse purchase as was clearly a well looked after car. Had some quick front wheel drive hot hatches back years go before going V8 rwd and all wheel drive so looking forward to it.

Nice purchase, what kind of condition are the rear arches in? First thing I would do is remove the black trim around them and bin it, clean/polish and clear all the crap accumulated on the inner lip out too, also inside where the rear bumper screws on. The rubber trims are know to cause rot, one of Honda's bright ideas to make the cars British weather proof.

Also, The large rear trail arm bushes will be past their best at this point if they haven't been changed already, if your changing these make sure you stick to an OEM stlyle and not poly, not a good idea on a road car, can cause some unpredictability at the rear. Fluid wise I have always ran a 5w40 fully synthetic and Honda's MTF3 is great gear oil.

What colour is it out of interest? I had an EK4 SiR at one point, great little cars.

Seems like a rare find. I had the eg9 and eg6 versions in saloon and hatch format. But to add to the above, check to see if the valve clearances have been done recently as they can be a bit noisy otherwise. Plus keep an eye on oil and coolant levels. These engines are the automotive version of a Cockroach.

The paint and bodywork is amazing.......except the very first signs of surface rust the paint hasn't broken yet and quite small but will need addressing. Shame really as the car is immaculate the electric tilt and slide sunroof is even greased and no leaks.

Paint colour is the scorching red pearl I bought a touch up pen earlier this week. Gave it a good wash ad polish yesterday as it's getting pushed into daily duties while my 911 has some power steering pipe changed on the rack. Thanks or the replies.

Had the touch up pen made by local auto paint place and perfect match touched up a few stone chips etc today and looked at the bits where the paint has started to bubble not broken through it's very early stage.

Looking forward to daily use.

The valve covering has started to peel off the cam cover, the black finish peeling. Worth swop for aftermarket covers or just live with or re paint.

Must be world's apart in driving experience from a 911. But still fun I guess. Rust on hondas usually needs to be treated pretty swiftly IME.

My cam covers peeled. It sets the engine bay right off with a freshly painted one. Whether from eBay or DIY. A nice contrasting colour always brings attention to the b series.

Used it this week takes me back and really enjoy it.

Change from big capacity petrol (Had a 5.7 v8 petrol before my 3.4 6 cylinder porker) and the family diesels torque got back into my youth and love it.

Hopefully get it RR before Christmas as a base health check but I've got some love for this vti. Won't be getting rid.

Love it. I had an EK4 about 10 years ago and it was great.

Ref the camcover, you could get a replacement one done by spooner restorations. He’s just done one for my EP3 and it’s brilliant.

Can you get some pictures of the EK4 up?
