Taxing a fresh import

Hi guys, been dreaming of a new car and have a question about tax. Reading around the net isn't getting me far.

I've been thinking of some form of imported car, currently wondering about a DC2 Integra.

Say the car was recently imported, and so this is it's first UK registration, although it was first made in say 96/97/98. Would the tax therefore be applied as if it was a new car , or under PLG .

A quick check of the emissions, cross referenced with current tax bands if the car is to be treated as 'new', seems to suggest a tax rate of about £1100 a year .

Tell me this isn't so?

Don’t quote me on this but I believe the tax might be cheaper than a UK spec DC2.

The best place to look is probably Torque GT. They might have the answer on their FAQ page, if not send them an email and I’m sure they’ll answer your question

I imported a DC2 through Torque at the end of last year. The way I understand it, regardless of engine size all imports are in the same tax bracket.

The DC2 is £245 for 12 months. You will also be charged a first registration fee of £75 but this is built in to Torque's fee if you use them.

Can't recommend Torque GT enough. From the proper silly little questions to handing over of the keys they were superb.

My JDM EP3 Is about £60 PA cheaper than my old UKDM too, Under PLG.
