Can't seem to get the video to work but if it's a 'sneeze' type nose then it's usually the starter motor which I believe is not an issue. If it's a deeper rattle type noise it may be the chain tensioner. Mine did this a while back so I had the chain and tensioner replaced, mine was at 100,000 miles at that point

hopefully this will work, I dont think it is the starter as I had this looked at and the new noise is different - could be wrong.

Thanks non the less

Sounds like it could be the auxillary belt tensioner.

Or more seriously the timing chain tensioner.

Thanks for the response, would you suggest not driving it? my mileage is quite low (<50m per week)

I would sincerely suggest sorting it before driving it.

You should be able to hear where the noise is coming from in the engine bay, if it's the auxillary belt tensioner it's in the left hand side of the bay and it's the large pulley underneath the one you can see it that video.

It's not an overly expensive part but it is fiddly to change.

A 02 EP3 I had years ago did this, it was because the timing chain had stretched. Other symptom I had was vtec wasn't engaging though.

been told the chain jumped a couple of teeth, I have concerns whether this is going to have damaged engine internals - is this likely?

also thanks for the input guys

Possibly, pretty certain you'd know if you'd bent a valve though.
