FN2 v EP3 Type R
Discussion
Hi currently driving around in an EP3 Type S.
It's been the wife's for 7 year's and now I'm borrowing it until I decide what car to get next.
Looking at the EP3 Type R budget of £3k or maybe would spend £5-£6k on an FN2.
The type s seems to ea5 brakes and is fussy with emissions despite a new cat and lambda sensor. It's getting through the MOT with fuel treatment.
Any opinions from owners of both ?

Aircon was an option IIRC.
A GT- spec FN2 is a nicer place to be, performance wise there's nothing really in it esp if you get a later FN2 with the LSD. I think it comes down to which you like the looks of more as they're somewhat divisive in appearance. Breadvan/spaceship arguments ensue amongst CTR owners.

I've just purchased an FN2 this weekend and I'm super happy with it. I think what it boils down to is what's your preference? If you a favour slight dynamics difference over a significant creature comforts difference, go for the EP3. Vice versa for the FN2.
I've shown it some fairly hard corners and I'm very surprised by how much grip it has. No hint of understeer yet. All wrapped up in a very daily friendly package, especially if you get the GT model.
Only negatives I have is:
Very hard suspension for a road car (although if you've had an aftermarket coilover'd car before then if won't be a suprise, it's not quite as harsh as that)
Rear visibility impeded by spoiler (although you can adjust your head position a little to see around it when you need, again not so bad)
The worst for me is the throttle hang when you let off the gas (standard modern emissions related stuff). Makes it quite hard to do fast gear changes at high rpm, but I'm still adjusting to this so it might not be so much of a problem after a while.

You do get used to the DBW throttle and the 'heavy flywheel effect' between gear changes, I think the 4kg balancer shafts on the oil pump have a part to play here, I think their performance is under-rated and like the EP3 you still have to work every last inch out of them, The are definitely a grower. Stock vs. stock I felt FN2 is a sharper instrument than the EP3, When I bought my EP3 it felt like a blunt knife in comparison in terms of feel, Particularly steering. I only got rid of mine because it was too nice to rip apart for trackdays and I needed to free up some cash for a house desposit.
5.1 FD is a nice touch on the FN2 as well vs. the 4.8 on the EP3.
