FN2 Type R's buying - rattles creaks etc
Discussion
Hi I've been recently looking at upgrading from my current little 2009 Mazda 2 Sport back up to something practical but with a bit more go, I bought the Mazda 2 as a stop gap after someone decided the back of my previous car was a good place to park last year.
One of the choices I have been considering was an FN2 Type-R GT. Reviews I have read seem promising, but with emphasis on a hard ride.
Question is how does this translate to cabin creaks rattles etc over time as the vehicle gets older and the miles pile on ? Are they creaky rattley etc

the only thing that rattles on mine is the drivers window when its half open, absolutely no rattles interior wise and if im honest i find it very quiet inside but it has only done 55k
Had mine for 4 years, no rattles or squeaks when I drove it, I had the rage alloys. Better quality than my BMW Z4 I have nowrich85uk said:

Mine does that and it destroys me.It was on the 19s but I couldn't take the abysmal ride on Aberdeens garbage road any more so I bought a set of the stock 18s and some progressive springs, it sorted the ride out no end.
Hoping I can help - I drive an FN3 GT, the Type R's diesel Type S sibling. It's a '59 plate. Similar ride as advertised to the FN2, with short springs and an overall heavier car, but on 17" wheels.
With regards to rattles and creaks, I haven't noticed any in mine through 2 years of ownership, putting 24K miles on the clock (35K in total). Plus I live the in countryside and with work I drive all around the UK so have driven everything from cities to villages. The ride doesn't bother me and the handling is great throughout.
Good shout on the GT, gives you a few auto perks (wipers, headlights) etc and fog lights, plus a screen for sat nav. I have read previously that the non-GT models were dropped in 2009 with the facelift of the 8th generation, so anything '59/10 plated should have you covered. Obviously be mindful about the '59s as that will be dependant on registration of leftover models and etc.
I would look out for signs of a leaky spoiler - if a spoiler has been replaced/changed (because Mugen) there is a chance you can get water seeping in from those holes, giving you a damp boot! Also, rusting roofs should no longer be an issue, but is something to be mindful of. Honda repaired them for free in a limited time period a few years ago, but I've known people still get the roof sorted lately. A situation best avoided!

I have a 10' plate FN2 Type R. Up until my spark plugs had to be replaced, it was rattle free. After that had been done I was getting a creak/squeak after going over bumps, I thought it sounded like something hitting my screen! It sounds like its coming from the dash but its actually from where the plastic trim at the top of the bonnet is pressing down onto the bottom end of the windscreen, as grit and dirt builds up. Its fairly well documented on the forums and is very easy to fix. You just need to replace the bit of foam under the plastic trim with extra padding. Worked a treat!
