Yep, sounds like it. As you say, they're tough engines, but there are limits! Does seem to happen more with engines that are high-revving to begin with - I think the forces involved scale with the square of revs, which might have something to do with it, or maybe they're just closer to the edge to begin with.

I did wonder but he's adamant that he went 5th to 4th. I've blown engines up in past during my racing days, cooked rings and spinning bottom ends but I've never put a hole in the block, at least he's done it properly I suppose.
So can anyone recommend companies that deal in trusting 2nd hand motors or re-conditioned??
