I went modded EP3>modded FD2>modded DC5. FD2 is leagues ahead of the other two. I only sold mine at the time to free up some cash but have regretted it ever since. I will soon be on the hunt for another one. A lot of guys on the forum are on their second one having realised its a hard act to follow.
There was one for sale in Essex which may be worth a look at if it's still available.

I'm in the unfortunate position of having to replace mine - 33 mile commute, the last part on some pretty shocking town roads, is denting my wallet and my back respectively.
Replacement is due to arrive end-Sept, so watch this space...
Oh, and I'll tend to agree - FD2 is in another league to the EP3 and feels like an evolution of the DC5, with added practicality and a more mobile rear-end (under provocation, at least...). I still miss my DC2s though...far slower than the FD2 but just so...organic...THE most intuitive car I've driven this side of a Caterham (and I'll include the S1 and S2 Elises in that).

FD2 has rear doors, proper rear legroom and a bigger boot with a much lower sill. I ditched a DC2 because of these issues soon after we had our son.
Folding rear seats only matter on the very odd occasions you need to carry oversized loads. The rest of the time a 450 litre boot and rear seats you can put a child seat in without losing the use of the front passgenger seat, while also getting at without contorting yourself through from the front door are fundamental.
Of course, all of that only matters if you have a family...but then if you don't why are you looking at 4-door saloons?!?

As standard yes, but change the rear shocks out for a set of Konis at less than £300 and they are no harsher than a DC5.
