My new 99 Prelude 2.2 vti
Discussion
Hello All
So i've been looking for a good clean car for about 6 months now, originally looking for a Subaru or civic type r, but this lovely number came up and i couldn't resist the good condition 1999 Honda Prelude 2.2 vti
Really liked the test drive and decided to go for it. Drives great and 4 wheel steer is interesting. High miles (121K) but in great condition (as far as i can see for now)
Can't wait for the weekend (without rain please) to really get under the car and have fun.
So i was wondering if you guys can recommend and good Honda specialists and or garages in the north west area? Initially i am looking to have somebody who really knows the 2.2 vtec engine to give the car a good check over and tell me any major issues that are present. After that we can start having fun
Where would be the best place to get some new fob’s as the ones with my 2 black keys will not work and the buttons are super dead.
Are there any good places for parts for the 5th gen cars?
Does anybody have some carbon style centre console and door card inserts, mine are the wood effect and not too keen on them.
Will have to add some pics on Saturday once i am not working Hello All

Only one place that i'd use... VTECDirect in Winsford. Andy Smith runs the place, and he's a Honda nut. He's the go to man for H22 engines.

Well the weekend was not kind to me getting anything done with the car, stupid rain
So will have to settle with a few promo pics from the add.
I have few days off this week for my birthday so fingers crossed for dry days.
Going to do a service and flush oils and coolant to start.
Add some mud guards to front too,....
aaaand possibly a Pumpkin double din

I was a big prelude fan.
I've had 4 altogether, last 2 were just like yours, same colour with the red top 197bhp engine and shorter ratio gearbox.
mine were faultless mechanically.
one was only 3 year old when I bought it, but I bought one 5 years ago and that had slight rust on the rear arch.
The 4wd on Honda is good. Below about 30mph it turns the opposite way so assists with parking but at speed they turn the same way. It feels like the back is starting to go, but fantastic on the right road.
Stick an induction kit on and you will have a big smile on your face

^ surely you mean 4WS - I know the S & D are next to each other on the keyboard, but it makes a lot of difference.....
Read what he said - he talks about which direction the wheels turn at what speeds, so it's patently obvious he's talking about 4WS, and that 4WD was a typo. However, yes, I'd have another Prelude myself, preferably a 4th Gen, but finding a good 'un sans rust is almost impossible.
So after over a month with my new prelude i can report that it's absolutely awesome.
Love how it drives, and it attacks the twisties like snake pass with ease.
The 4WS is odd at first but is great, and is a huge help on tight roads. Makes the car feel so light and nimble.
I have taken the stereo out and replaced it with a pumpkin 7" double din. It rocks all kinds of kick ass.
So now time to get the car ready for oulton park on the 20th Feb . woohoo, can't wait.

Yea i was never considering a prelude and was looking for a classic Subaru, but saw this and was sold.
The car had an mot failure on rust underneath but that's all been addressed by the garage before i bought it and i didn't have to worry about the rust.
The rest of the car is in fantastic condition, inside looked like new and not a 122K mile car.
I have added a Pumpkin double din into the centre console, so now the car has its own email address and runs full android os.

Looks lovely, always been one of my leftfield favourites. The car had an mot failure on rust underneath but that's all been addressed by the garage before i bought it and i didn't have to worry about the rust.

Sentences like the one above that I've bolded make me feel nervous though... have you had a good poke around underneath with a sharp implement? Call me overly cynical, but I never believe claims over rust repairs until I've seen it with my own eyes and given it a strong jab with a screwdriver!

Yea me too. They however guaranteed the welding\rust repair for 2 years so not too bad. Had the car looked at by my mechanics and they said the work was ok, could have been done better but nothing to worry about. I'm planning to get under the car one weekend when it stops raining everyday. Looking forward to cleaning up the engine and getting the car ready for a track day in a few weeks Sentences like the one above that I've bolded make me feel nervous though... have you had a good poke around underneath with a sharp implement?
