Guys ,I am looking at the above tomorrow . I need a cheap run about for Mrs to drive to work and take daughter to cresh each day . Car will do no more than ten miles a day as we live near both . Is there anything I should be looking out for other than the usual tyre, exhaust ,brakes oil filler sludge checks ? I have read they are pretty reliable . This is 77000 miles with FSH . Thanks

From memory, do turns full lock in both directions (reverse too) make sure it doesn't clonk, although even if it does may just require a diff fluid change - see if there was any record of it being done. Also give it a good run - it shouldn't hang about or hesitate and try and test the 4wd.

Cheers , went to see it and bought it . Just serviced and mot'd also . Few little pain scrapes but solid car . I will change rears as not enough tread for my liking . With it being 4 wheel drive is it biased more towards rear? Cheers

Im pretty sure its front wheel drive until it detects slippage, then applies power to the rear.

I'd second doing the full lock / reverse thing - any vibration or squeeks, the DIFF needs flushed.

I found my '99 one to be a bit heavier on the front - unlike my '57 version that uses the rears more (for some strange reason). I sold my '99 at 124,000 - only ever serviced it, flushed the diff, new tyres etc. No other repairs at all. Sold it sight unseen, and it's now done over 200,000 and still no major repairs!

Wish I could say the same about the '57 one - Anyone with one will recognise the air-con failings on that model!

Hi . I keep noticing a knocking from underneath car . It's not always but it happens a few times on a journey on bends.

I was thinkng maybe the exhaust knocking but on MOT it says both rear trailing arm rubber bushes deteriorated but not resulting in excessive movement . Could this be problem ?

Thanks

Could be, you can get them replaced handily enough too, not the most expensive job either.

The rear trailing arm bushes are worn but it passed MOT so leaving for a while. The banging was due to the drop links coming away from the anti roll bar at front. Both replaced today for 54.72 pounds all in , pretty cheap I thought and the banging has gone. Both rears needed changing also so 130 quid for 2 new tyres which asked them to swap with the fronts .

My understanding is the CRV is not 4wd in reality?

It normally uses front wheel drive, but when the going gets tough, it automatically engages rear wheel to give you 4x4. You tend not to even be aware that it has done it - except for the extra traction!
