Current Civic - Facelift
Discussion
With the arrival of the all new CTR in 2015, will this bring along a facelift of the current extremely dull Civic range, to add in some excitement?
Anyone working close to Honda know if something is in the pipeline and confirm if January is when the new models are released?
Mum looking to replace here current Civic, the latest car is a retrograde move IMHO, so looking to see of holding out would be a good idea...
Thanks peeps

I don't know of new engines, it certainly would be a surprise. The vtec turbo stuff will be in Type R first and new Jazz (1.0T)and HR-V (1.5ED) I'd imagine... I don't see Honda meddling with the current Civic line up until the FMC, but maybe wait until Paris Auto Show in October, more news might be released...
Yeah, I'm going to wait to see if anything interesting is announced in Paris next month. I'm quite tempted but the petrol auto option is really not very attractive. Both performance and fuel economy are below expectations. I'm trying to decide whether it's worth going for a test drive. On the one hand the performance figures rule it out. On the other hand the dealer does seem quite keen to do business.

Revised front/rear end with new tech inside, engines remain the same though... we must wait until the FMC before seeing the vtec turbo/earthdreams petrol engines in Civic then...

Looks like the CRV is also getting a facelift and - significantly - a new drivetrain. 158bhp diesel with 9-speed automatic gearbox.

Is it too much to hope that they will put this in the Civic as well?
I wonder if the new auto gearbox is in-house or from a third party. I seem to recall the previous ones were designed and built in-house. Articles on the web suggest that this new one is the ZF 9-speed unit.

Sorry to resurrect an old topic. But - does anyone know if the forthcoming turbo petrol engines are going to end up in the Civic any time soon?
I really like the Civic Tourer, and I'm seriously thinking about getting out my cheque book, but the current petrol auto drivetrain is slow and inefficient, and a deal breaker.
Anyone got the inside scoop?

It`s probably this that has resulted in Honda being in the position it presently in.
The UK range is poor to say the least.
Very much so.The UK range is poor to say the least.
I believe that the UK range is now down to 3 cars: Jazz, Civic and CR-V. No Insight, no CR-Z, no Accord. These models are listed on Honda's website, but according to my dealer they are special order only and are basically unavailable.
I really liked the the Civic Tourer, but the only auto available is the aforementioned petrol version, and by modern standards it just doesn't cut it. I'm sure it's ultra reliable but I can't justify it. And it's not cheap.
There's no hybrid, which I found surprising - what happened to Honda's market-leading hybrid tech? It's available in the US; why not here?
It's really sad I wanted to do business with them, but there's just nothing in the current range that works for me.

Same here. We own a Jazz and it's a great little car that does everything we need from it. I have an Accord Tourer that's also quite good. The thing is Honda UK priced the Accord out of contention, placing it amongst the 3 series, A4 and C Class etc. The British public obviously preferred to have the perceived prestige badge on their drive. I had a look at the Civic Tourer in my local showroom a while back when the Jazz was having an MOT. It was a nice package but it was priced at £27,000. This was for a 1.6 diesel car.
The fact that there are no aspirational cars in the UK line up is mystifying. The CR-Z was a missed opportunity and the lack of a Civic Type R for so long is baffling, don't Honda realise that by not offering a car for present owners to trade up to they'll lose them to other manufacturers?
Honda UK need to get a grip quickly.
My dad recently bought a tourer in that spec - 1.8, auto. He really likes it but the very "traditional" petrol and autobox were what appealed. No turbos, no high pressure injectors, no fancy dual clutch gearboxes to go wrong. It is his third petrol auto Honda in about 15 years though (Accord then CRVs).
He tried the Auris Touring (I pushed him to, I was very impressed by the hybrid I drove, nearly enough to buy one) as I thought it was the ideal petrol auto these days. He really didn't like the drivetrain.
I guess Honda keeps going OK with people like him. The 1.6 diesel Civic seems to do OK for people that like that sort of thing.

Incidentally, my local dealer rang me up a while ago with the usual offer to do business. During the conversation they said that the new turbo petrol engines would come to the Civic this year. Not just the Type-R, but generally.
I find it hard to believe given it's only just been facelifted, but maybe something will be offered in Q3/Q4.
They are also coming to the HR-V apparently.
