S2000 NEWBIE: Talk about late to the party
Discussion
Hi Folks,
After owning numerous BMW convertibles, and being on the search for a Z4M, I bought a 2006 S2000 on a whim.
Why didn't i do this sooner? I love it!! in the sunshine I'm inclined to take it for a spin over my 997 Turbo as it brings a bigger smile to my face.
any must-do mods i should be thinking about?
haven't had a chance to take photos yet. picking it up in the morning.

Welcome
The only mod's that I would recommend would be to check the geometry (not really a modification!) and perhaps get the 'UK exhaust mod' done.
Loads of information here: http://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/944056-exhaust-mod...

Congrats. I did the same in January and love it.
I havent made any mods (the car came with konis fitted though) but have done a few bits of preventative maintenance, especially a clutch slave cylinder refresh - there are guides online - which made a big difference to shift quality and clutch weight. Perhaps yours doesnt need it but its worth bearing in mind.

Got mine last June and still loving it. I use it as a daily and still hasnt become boring.
A lot of people seem to do the 'UK Exhaust Mod' im still unsure on this and have been torn for some time. Id like it a little louder without sounding like its farting down a tube which im worried might happen.
Also when mine was MOT'd it was noticed it was quite rusty. Ive now treated mine the best I could myself but its worth having a look underneath if its a keeper. Think im going to re treat before winter.

S2Ki is the place to be , shed loads of information and advice over there. More advice and info in an evening there than you will get here in a month !
But Geo is important as are bushes and the adjustment bolts which were not greased in the factory, they rust and seize up solid .
Although with a car of that vintage post facelift , you shouldn't burn to much if any oil , ensure it's always full up to the specified level on the dipstick.
Check the boot for water ingress ,often a lake under the tools , usually roof drains or the air pressure release flap
Clean and check the rubber trims around the rear wheel arches ,common place for corrosion to start
Never ever call it an AP2 it's not ever in the UK unless it's been imported from the US , it's a post face lift AP1
Have you found the secret compartments ?

What to look for -
Apart from usual stuff on every car
Like oil, water, filters, brakes etc
Roof condition
Wheel arch rust
Rattle when warm (diesel like) - timing tensioner.
Has it had Geo setup
Many buyers want full honda history yet they don't continue it and some say DIY.
My current s2 doesn't have full honda history and is better than my previous one that did have and lower miles but I suppose it does give you an idea if you are travelling a long way to view.

I really like S2000s, but the main thing stopping me from buying one is the lack of cruise control... but I read somewhere that one person had it retrofitted...
What's the deal-io.
About £500 for the bits when I was looking! What's the deal-io.
Biggest must is fitting an AEM long ram air intake. They sound incredible with this mod. Can't believe I waited 3 years to do!!
Normal driving isn't affected but once you floor the throttle you'll be grinning like a Cheshire Cat.
Funny you mentioned about the fun factor of this car vs a 911. I was told exactly the same from a 911 owner/friend that I wouldn't have as much fun in the 911.
