Hi Guys

I've not been round these parts for a while and certainly not since getting my S2000. I need a little advise from the S2000 purists please.................

I'm off to the Nurburgring in a couple of weeks and taking the Honda for the first time. My previous cars for the trip have been Audi RS4 and Porsche 996 C2 and both were fantastic on the Ring.

I'm a little nervous about the Honda.......I know it will be fun, but I also know the car can bite you in the AxxE GIVEN THE SLIGHTEST CHANCE!!!!!!!!! I've got a 2009 so it has VSA but from less than 1 years ownership, this has little or no effect on the back end jumping ship at the slightest opportunity. I'm considering a set of Toyo 888's as an extra precaution and extra grip. The car has good rubber all round, but its not good quality rubber and its mixed brands. Don't shoot the messenger, it came from Stratstone like that!!!

My thoughts are get a set of Toyo 888 medium compound tyres for the trip, then maybe sell them when I get back. as they are one of the best road/track tyres out there, plenty of people are looking to buy them off ebay (I am and I cant find any good second hand ones!!!!) and I wouldn't lose too much money. I would also consider Yoko AO48's, but these are even more money!!!

I'm also considering a set of pagid blues or Mintex M1155 pads for the front. Probably the Mintex as the pagids are £250 for a set before fitting. They fit the Mintex to AP brakes and at £100 + fitting they aren't ridiculous in cost.

The question is, money well spent, or not needed??????????

The car is a pristine last edition example, so not sure I want to modify it too much further with induction, decats, etc.

Advise well received.

Thanks!

Janosh

I would imagine the OEM brakes will be more than enough at the 'ring, unless you really know the track you won't be using them that hard.... this is presuming that they're in good condition.

If you're driving there and back, I would go for the AD-08's and keep them on the car once you get home... you won't want to put the ditch finders back on nono

888s mean you'll be going much faster when it does let go.

I'd put 4 good quality road tyres on, DS2500s on the front and take a spare set of OE rear pads with you.

Cheers Guys

Just looking at the AD08's now or the Toyo R1R's. The brakes are all good as standard. only 1500 since an over hall done by Stratstone.

Hi, R888's will be mega on the ring, but if it pisses it down on the way there (or there) you probably will struggle with them. I would also suggest the AD08R's as a good compromise.
Are you going the weekend after easter ? if so I will be there with my 99 S2000 so may well see you there.biglaugh

Cheers.....Tony..

If you've got track spec rubber on, I would assume the break away of traction will be quite unpredictable compared to normal road tyres. It'll also be at higher speeds. Wouldn't an OE Bridgestone be the best bet if predictabilty and surefootedness were top of the agenda?

Get a good set of sporty, matching road tyres.

You don`t want to sell half eaten tyres when you get back and you sure as hell don`t want to put the crappy mismatching bunch back on either.

Thanks Tony. Im at the ring 1-5 May for the 4 days its open to the public. It should be really busy!!! We usually stop at Edy's on the Adenau bridge but he was full this time, so decided to stop at centre parcs which is 25k away which should be fun too. Ive got a 2009 reg VXX (I may swap this and buy S2K PV before then)

Hope to see you there!

Anyone tried Federal FZ-201 at all?

Are these any good? Ive got a quote of £550 + vat for a full set of 888's. Just trying to get a price on the AD08's before I make my mind up.

I would say forget the track tyres and go for decent road tyres like Bridgy Potenzas or Goodyear Eagle F1's. Once you are on the track, just enjoy yourself and know the limits of both yourself and the car...No point in being a hero!

If you do decide to go with semi-slicks, take ear plugs...the road noise will be brutal! hehe

I don't think you will go wrong with the AD08s. I find on the Ring you use the brakes a good bit less than on other track days, meaning better cool down periods. So I again would think standard brakes should do the trick for you.
As stated, Ferrodo 2500s would be my next step up for occasional track and fast road.

How are you finding the S2K and how many miles have you covered in It?

Thanks for the advise. Yeh, enjoying the s2k. cheap bit of fun, where as before I has £30k's worth of car I never used!!! On a good day, it can fly and be so rewarding, in the wet, it can be a little more challenging!!!

Ive been told by others the ferrodo pads really squeal and drive you mad. Any experience of this?

Im looking forward to some roof down fun on the Ring, im not out to set any records, but its easy to get carried away and hence I would like to add in a few extra security measures like decent brakes and tyres.

Ive got 888's on mine and they are awsome when up to temp. Plenty of feed back and there not that bad in the rain either.........Its only standing water they dont like.
Would be my choice every time.

I have the DS2500 all round at present and have no squealing problems at all. I have traditionally been a mintex fan and have used m1144 with success on my s2000, next time I might go for 1155 on front and 1144 on rear or maybe even go for a set of Dixcel z pads all round as they are virtually guaranteed fade free.

Have a good time during the may bank holiday (it will be mega busy) I'm going the 26th/27th April as it should be a bit quieter.

Cheers.....Tony..

I'm aware it's not an S2000 but I have DS2500 all round on my Integra and I have no noise issues and they really are a lovely pad.

Full set of yoko ado8r purchased! Just the brakes now. I've been quoted £110 for a set of 2500s and £85 for a set of mintex 1144. Still not sure whether to stick with standard brakes or put a set of upgraded pads. Will I really feel a difference ?

Is the geo all setup? And I would change the brake fluid to blue dot, and mine used to get fade on updated pads quite quickly.

I'd say running 888's will be a bit scarier, as when it does let go, you'll be going a hell of a lot faster and it will probably be quite a sharp 'let go'.

I'd say good road tyres... AD08 is uber, RE050 is 'ok' IMO, and I'm going to try the Goodyear F1 Assym 2's next, get the geo checked, and you'll probably have good predictable fun/response on the tyres all day. Plus you wont have to deal with the road noise.

Brakes wise, good fresh fluid and trying not to be a braking hero will serve you fine. From what I've heard DS2500's are spot on, on the S2000.

I've gone from a 'sorted' (geo, ad08's, new dampers, mugen bushes, nsx brakes, eibach springs etc) DC2 Type-R... to my 05 S2000 (with unknown geo, mixed re050's all round, some A spec ones, some non, some old etc). The thing I've noticed the most regarding the rear 'letting' go, is that I think it's mostly me that causes it. What I mean by that is the throttle has very little travel compared to other cars I've driven including my DC2, and the steering is quite quick lock-to-lock. So I think I've generally been overdoing it on the inputs. I'm trying to be a bit smoother and bit more conscious of this, and I find it's behaving better.

Sorry for the last little waffle there, but I've been thinking about it recently!
