2013 2.2 diesel

Test drove a CRV the other day. Quite likes it, but the diesel engine gave out a very audible whistling noise, that penetrated the cabin quite markedly. Salesman said it was a characteristic of the car, but it had me concerned enough to come away and do some research. I didn't want to be buying a duff one.

So is the whistling normal? It sounded like it was associated with the turbo and it would seem strange that something that requires you to turn up the radio is deemed to be 'normal'.

My 2010 iDTEC with 50k miles doesn't do that. It sounds 'orrible at cold tickover but it doesn't whistle.

Did a google search sand spoke to some other Honda people and the 2.2 diesel does indeed have a pronounced whistling when cold. Apparently it was even worse in the old shape model

Nothing to worry about, I sell them for a living, they all do that, just a bit of turbo noise.

Any advice on the 2013 model CRV. Looking at an EX and the prices of them seem to be all over the place.
