I seem to remember that Honda started taking deposits earlier this year.

I am tempted. But my local dealer knows nothing about it, and I'm nervous about committing to a car without knowing the final appearance and specs.

I signed up on the Honda website a few months ago, but have heard nothing since. Maybe I need to try again.

Has anyone done it?

Had my car serviced by a dealer the other week and the Missus was looking at the FN Civics, had a chat with a salesperson and i mentioned the new Type R.

We eventually got on topic of the new NSX, £5k deposit he said, but he knew nothing about the car ! Im sure its going to be a cracker though.

For the latest speculation go to http://www.nsxprime.com/forum/forumdisplay.php/35-... - warning, horsepower willy-waving abounds.

for more British discussions see here http://www.nsxcb.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?21-General...

http://www.honda.co.uk/cars/comingsoon/nsxconcept/

deposits have been taken in the UK.

Honda Australia has a new NSX specific site: http://nsx.honda.com.au/

Thanks dobly

It seems that there is still a lot of uncertainty over price and spec, so I'm going to sit it out for a few months...

With all due respect, I think those who have place deposits aren't too worried over prices/specs. Some will be die hard Honda fans and others will be trying to get a slot booked which they can sell for a profit later on.

I hope Honda really pull out the stops with this NSX, I'll never afford one but it will be awesome to see the NSX return

Fair points BF.

The thing is, I might well put a deposit down now if I knew more about the deal.

For example, is the deposit refundable if you change your mind once the price/spec are known? Or are you committing to buying blind? Surely nobody, even die-hards, would do the latter. In fact the only people that would, would be Honda dealers.

Does placing a deposit get you any more information than the stuff floating around the web, or are you merely reserving a place in the queue?

In other words, what does one get for one's £5K?

The local dealer doesn't know. Their comment was essentially "give us a cheque for £5k and we'll work out what to do with it" which as a transaction does not appeal to me...

I'd imagine it's a similar situation to the old XJ220 order process which is basically 'we're going to build XYZ spec but if it's ABC you're still committed to buy'

I'm sure that when the final spec is announced you would be given an opportunity to actually proceed or get your cash back I your pocket, I wouldn't imagine that anyone has any more information than anyone else or it would soon be out there!!

Good luck if you do decide to go for one, I'm sure it will be an epic (hybrid powered I think wink ) car.

When I called my local Honda dealer for info, they said all of the above, plus "you have to agree not to sell it on for six months".

Price wise, the target was stated to be the R8.

We have ordered 5 so far from our dealership.

One staff car, one showroom car, and three customer cars. So far we pretty much know nothing. You get the following letter however...

Dear

Re: Pre-order of NSX

We set out below the terms regarding any orders you wish to place for the NSX:

The deposit for any orders is £5,000 which you agree to be offset by Honda (UK) against any Managing Change payment to be made at the end of the quarter nearest the order placement. We have chosen this route, as due to money laundering regulations Honda (UK) are unable to take monetary deposits directly from customers or dealerships.

Pre-orders on behalf of Dealer Principals, Proprietors or Dealership Staff must be placed in the Dealership name, as the deposit will be offset against a Managing Change payment paid to the Dealership.

The NSX purchased under these terms cannot be made available for resale within the first 6 months of the registration date of such vehicle with the D.V.L.A.

The price of the vehicle will be communicated to you when available.

If for any reason Honda is unable to supply the NSX to you any deposit taken would be refunded.

This letter and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with it shall be governed by and construed in accordance with English law. Please sign and return the enclosed copy of this letter to acknowledge your agreement to the terms.

Yours sincerely
Honda (UK)

I don't see how they could stop you selling it within 6 months if you wanted once it has been delivered and you have paid for it?

Reading the letter it sounds like the 6 month restriction only applies to dealer registered cars

I would have thought it was a big bet to plan to make a profit on the new NSX , even the best of the last gen are only just getting close to list price after the best part of 10 years of being out of production.

I know my mate got out of his GTR (one of the first batch into the UK) after 6 months and pretty much got all his money back, but this was in part down to a price hike from Nissan, together with a move in VAT from 15 to 20% (so the current list price had shot up)

I"m tempted to put a deposit down for a new NSX but on the bases I take delivery and enjoy it :-), and to be sure of this I need to see/read the reviews.

The original sold for £70k over 20 years ago...was about 10-15% more than a simple 911.

So the price-point is about bang-on, given a 'simple' 911 is now close to £80k...and doesn't have any hybrid tech in it...

yes

100K sounds about right for what it is purported to be. Of course, the risk is that it is not.

Another big risk is in whether the public will pay 100K for a Honda, however good. Especially given that Honda's current UK lineup is not exactly stellar. The Accord is no longer sold in the UK, the Legend was axed a long time ago, and there are rumours that they will axe the Insight and CR-Z soon. (It would seem logical to drop the Insight in favour of a hybrid version of the Civic Tourer.) That leaves Jazz, Civic and CRV I think. All very good cars (IMHO) but the NSX is clearly not a logical part of that range.

It's making me nervous about putting down my 5K. I would hate to find myself tied into buying something that is a very watered down version of what is being mooted, and then not being able to sell for 6 months (and then only at a loss). And Honda do not seem able to reassure me on this point.

I like Honda because they defy convention, take risks, and try and do things better rather than following the herd. If anyone is going to do something bonkers like put a supermini and supercar next to each other in the same showroom, it's them. I want to give them my money, but I'm finding it hard to justify at the moment.

I don't think Honda really cares too much about how many they sell in Europe, where it will be up against the 911 and R8 in price bracket. But after the last sales debacle, it has to sell very well in the USA (which is why it's being manufactured in Ohio) and then also into emerging markets.

It's GOT to be badged NSX to be a sales success. And it's got to be good to justify the badge. Honda know both these things.

That they're targeting the R8 bodes pretty well, TBH.

As for residuals / resale / etc. - they're keeping numbers low, so despite the H on the front I can't see it being an SLS-style depreciation-fest. Might not be class-leading, and unlikely to be one for the speculators, but should be pretty good.

Designed in the US and built in the US, which doesn't seem very 'Honda' to me. Perhaps we should think of it as an Acura for the American market first and foremost, and an afterthought for the rest of the world. Still, I'd think about it if I were a potential customer, and it will be interesting to see how it measures up against the BMW i8.

Maybe Mugen will get a ship load of cars and do their own thing for the JDM and Euro markets. smile

Doesn't Honda intend to race it in the Japanese GT class? So there will doubtless be JDM versions (limited to 112kmh, for starters!)
