I was washing mine a couple of days ago and came to the back bumper and theought "If this came out last year - it would have some sort of bolt-on diffuser" Then started thinking what things I would put on if it was designing one today...

-I'd definitly keep the engine - but i'd maybe lump in some sort of tiny, box-ticking, hybrid motor under the boot to keep consumption down in the town and a bit of sub-6k torque. (I'd demand a 10,000rpm v6 type R version too)

-I'd have a difuser that would actually work to some degree (i'm a big fan of ground-effect tech) and a few aero tweaks for a lower drag coeficient. Maybe active areo too.

-Use Carbon Fibre for the famous 'X' Chassis, Aluminium for bodywork and the whole thing would have to come in at under 1,050kg... (My only gripe with the S2000 was it's far too heavy!).

-Lastly, a fully adjustable seat & steering wheel. I'm 5'8", so it fits me like a glove... but adjustability adds to the driving experience.

... Oh, and a sequential gearbox option!! love those.

Anybody got any suggestions?

You had me at 10,000rpm v6.

Refresh the looks a bit but keep it simple, keep it free of electronic bullsttery, keep it light and with a proper diff and gearbox. Bit more power from the v6 then job done!

Variant on the K20A, slightly better MPG and bottom end. More adjustable seats / lower positioning. Better electric PAS.

I dont feel the exterior has dated too much, still looks pretty good to me.

I think the only two points i'd like are covered with 'more torque' and 'lower seats'.

Other things might be a somewhat accurate fuel gauge - actually, some more data (current mpg, average mpg, range, outside temp, g force? biggrin etc) wouldn't be too much to ask for either.

Keyless entry and ignition. Keep the big red button of course.

More induction noise.

Better stereo.

An 'airscraf' like SLK's now have.

Sat nav
USB connectivity
Decent fuel gauge
A built in cover for the hood when it is down, like the Z4, or maybe a hardtop convertible.

Everything else I'd leave the same

They were slightly overweight so i'd ditch electric roof for MX-5 style simple one
Cloth seats option
Better steering
Shorter 5th and 6th gear
Single exhaust pipe

If they were making a new one...wouldn't it be cool if they made F1 style engine,1.6 V6 turbo(hate turbo personally thats why i love S2000 but everybody seems to do it so anything else is unreasonable to expect) 320 hp,choice of gearbox,981 quallity non electric roof(plese no foldable hardtop),reasonable size wheels(no more than 18) and designed by someone who took a very good look at the old one,if hybrid then option only...i'd even consider mid engine layout, call it F1600

Would
- keep the engine and gearbox unchanged
- allow seat & steering adjustment
- change the steering from electric to hydraulic for better feel
- produce a track ready version out of the factory (like an exige or GT3 RS)

-2 more cylinders, same redline, same gearbox and diff..Raspy straight 6 would be ideal but V6 would be lighter and more fitting with Honda's history and easier to package whilst keeping FMR layout.
-Ability to raise and lower roof without snipping wires..
-glove box!
-analogue rev counter/speedo (sorry but i always hated the digital one)
-bluetooth streaming/better stereo
-more finished ignition key/start button system
-OBC/trip computer
-Lighter exhaust system

Buckets.
Adjustable buckets.
Reach adjustable wheel.
Set up to allow me to take liberties without facing the wrong way on a verge.

Basically, my MX5, but so that I can fit in it and have the controls in the right place, proper seats, better looks and a nice engine. All the rest (iPod, air scarf(?!)) you can leave for the 'other car' thanks. Active aero on a road-going sports car is of absolutely no use to me thanks.

I will add to me previous entry....
Better roll protection as standard: higher / stronger roll hoops, or the pop up ones like on BMWs
Better brakes (the only thing letting the car down on the track imo)

Ditch the electric steering and go old school.

Better adjustability from the seats and steering column.

Cloth seats an option.

Weight loss diet, as they were actually quite porky. Lighter roof mechanisms, exhaust ETC

I'll not claim they were the lightest car ever, however they were not heavy compared to the competition so hardly porky.
For comparison:
S2000 - 1250kg
Boxster - 1420kg
Z4 (3.0) - 1370kg
350Z roadster - 1600kg
Audi TT - 1515kg
Merc SLK - 1495kg

Bloody hell the Nissan is really porky. Still, I'll stand by the idea of giving it a diet, even if it is (clearly) not nearly as beefy as it's rivals, I think the engines character lends itself to a lightweight car and dropping a few KG's would work well.

I crashed mine, only minimal tt-esque style driving involved, but until that point it was a great car, didn't use it every day though.

Even the race S2000s with all the interior stripped out and with FRP panels can't get below 1100Kg so you would be hard pressed to make it much lighter.

I wouldn't change very much, a proper LSD and a single pipe and be done with it.

The brakes can be sorted with DS2500s.

What LSD does the S2000 have? I always thought it was a 'proper' one?

It's a Torsen LSD http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torsen

It is a LSD but less aggressive than say a race derived one that generally is much more aggressive.
