Been mulling over the idea of a DC2 or an EK9, as they're both itches I've been meaning to scratch.

I'd be keeping the car for a year then moving it on again, so my question is -

How strong are the residuals for both cars? and what should I be looking to pay for a decent example?

P.s coming from a Mk2 1.8 MX5, if any owners fancy a PX wink

I haven't checked for while, but generally EK9s hold their values pretty well. They also command quite a premium over DC2s.

Most people will break them for parts rather than suffer the dishonour of accepting less than £5k for an EK9.

I'd say most are really 'worth' about £3k, but that's scene tax for you, it's a great depreciation barrier.

As above - EK9's are rarer and are perceived by some (mainly owners! wink ) to be the better car, so command a premium.

In reality, the 1.6 in the EK9 is even peakier than the 1.8 in the DC2, which makes the car hard-work unless you're on an empty road going for it. I'd say the EK9 is probably the better track car...

If you buy either car 'well', you should be able to make your money back when you sell. Pick a car that's not got any big jobs coming up in the next 3-4 years and has had any rust properly sorted recently, and make sure that you keep on top of any niggles / servicing.

If you buy cheap, you'll have to sell cheap / cheaper - these are all old cars and (regardless of the H badge) need looking after now...cars which haven't had the right maintenance / refurb / replacement are going to fall down into chav / shed territory in the near future as people after a 'good' DC2/EK9 realise the amount of money they'll need spending on them.
