05 civic 1.6 camshaft position sensor
Discussion
Hi Honda gurus,
My wife has a 55 plate Civic 1.6 Sport EP3 that had a loss of power on the motorway and threw up an check engine light (static). I plugged my code reader into it and it gave code P0340 which is a fault with the camshaft position sensor.
I cleared the code, but the car displayed the warning light again after a short drive and cut power, so it's clearly not a one off.
My questions are -
Is it likely to be the sensor itself or is something more sinister likely/possible?
Is it ok to get a pattern part, or would you recommend Honda only?
The job looks pretty easy to do, are there any gotchas I need to worry about?
Thanks!

I guessing the Honda has variable valve timing. If this was working incorrectly, it might throw up a cam sensor code, and loose power / go into limp mode.
I'd normally go for an OE part if you are going to change it. (or OE parts suppliers like Bosch). If the part is cheap, it makes some kind of sense to change it rather than pay for diagnostics.
