Hi

Know a lot about hondas having owned loads previously, but don't know the "real world" mpg of these 2 particular cars respectively.

Getting the wife a "runabout" - does less than 5 miles a day !

Can anyone advise on what £20 worth of "real world" driving would get or a full tank?

Thanks in advance.

I've used a 2.0 Type-S for the last 4 years.

Predominantly based on a 28 mile B-road commute (60 mph generally, slowing for the odd village), the trip computer reads 41.5 mpg. Calculated manually its more like 37 mpg.

Fuel economy becomes noticeably worse once the higher lift cam is used (circa 3000 rpm i think).

I owned a 2005 Type-S 2.0 litre (160hp) for almost 7 years (Sept 2006 - June 2013) and covered 73K miles. I logged every petrol purchase and the overall mpg was just over 33mpg. However, the car was super reliable and the only repair was a pair of replacement drive shaft constant velocity joints that cost just over £300 fitted. Each set of 4 Michelin 205/55-16s lasted for around 28K miles.

Its replacement, Skoda vRS 2.0TDi (170hp), has averaged just under 46mpg over 1200 miles and is also faster.

I'm using an 05-plate 1.6 as my daily snotter just now, and have averaged 47.7mpg since I bought it in April (mostly gentle driving in light commuter traffic on A-roads and motorways).

However, rather than anecdotal evidence from individuals, I'd recommend one of the online databases which tracks multiple users. I use Spritmonitor (German-based site, hence the odd name), and according to them:

2000-05 1.6 (manual) averages 38.9 mpg (89 entries)
2000-05 2.0 (manual) Type-S averages 33.4 mpg (5 entries)

Hi

Thanks for both replies - good honest real world figures.

Test drove the 2.0 type s the other day, nippy not quite as quick as type r but don't want that ! smile

1 other quick question is there any difference in the suspension on the 2.0 type s vs the 1.6 sport?

Type S had nice firm ride, hope the 1.6 sport is also firm.

I have a 55 plate 1.6 sport and average 37 mpg since I got it in Feb ..... I have a 20 mile round commute each day most of it in rush hour traffic. Drive reasonable sensible and only go above 3,000RPM every so often
