The new Jazz has been revealed. This is a key model for Honda in the UK

http://www.carscoops.com/2013/07/this-is-all-new-2...

I'm interested to know what people think of it.

On the one hand, the fuel economy of the hybrid version is borderline unbelievable. Honda are claiming 102mpg on the EU combined cycle. Competitors are around the 70mpg mark these days. If this translates to real world usage it is surely a game changer.

The hybrid powertrain is all new. The petrol engine is bigger and much more efficient, the batteries are now lithium ion and the CVT has been replaced by a 7-speed dual clutch transmission which means no more droning engine noise (and which is surely the number 1 hate about hybrids). The whole setup is more powerful (130bhp apparently). I imagine that this powertrain will turn up in the Civic at some stage.

There is the usual round of incremental improvements to wheelbase, boot space etc.

On the other hand, I'm not sure about the styling. I think they took the Fiesta as a reference. The overall profile is nice but the detailing seems to be heavy-handed and to lack cohesion. I preferred the cleaner look of the current model. In the UK the Jazz sells well to older people who have more conservative tastes. Maybe they are trying to attract a younger audience.

The interior looks rather messy. And there are fewer physical buttons. Again I preferred the current model. But the binnacle graphics look really nice.

What do people think, hit or miss?

p.s. please accept this as my entry for "least PH topic ever"

I have been wondering about changing my aging MB2 Civic. It's staying now until these are about £8k secondhand. 130hp Jazz. Nice, if we get one...

Current version is not exciting in any way whatsoever but incredibly well designed, practical and at least for me exceeds it's claimed fuel economy figures. I hope they haven't sacrificed some of that good design for sake of appearance. Storage under rear seat seems to be gone, no split-level boot and we're missing the left side cupholder in front for starters smile

I'll fetch my slippers...

It's better looking! Definitely more attractive than the older ones, perhaps indeed they are trying to cut into the niche "under 60s" market wink

102 real world mpg sounds very impressive! My Honda CG125 couldn't even get that, and that's a 125cc 1 cylinder engine propelling 100kg of bike (170 with me wink)

My goodness, that is ugly... At least the 56 plate Jazz I'm driving at the moment fits in to the bug-eyed-otherwise-anonymous crowd redface - that just looks disjointed from a few angles frown .

The Jazz (a 1.2DSie from memory confused ) I'm currently driving also gave me 53mpg on the dashboard and 49mpg 'brim to brim' over the last 300 miles over the last 10 days... What will the "102mpg wonder" give when driven 200 urban miles a week??? wink
