Looking for some advice and guidance here...

All 4 tyres on my CRV are constantly losing pressure. If I leave the car for a couple of days I can return and a couple will be visibly low, near flat (actually about 10psi measured). I re-inflate them to 30psi.

Visually the tyres look ok, no obvious damage or punctures and plenty of tread left all round. I am wondering if this is a symptom of porous alloy wheels and if so, how repairable they are? Or am I best off ditching the wheels completely and buying a replacement set.

The wheels themselves are in a shabby state with peeling lacquer, but I have had that before on other cars (most notably a 2001-Celica) with no ill-effect to the tyres.

Have you thought of going to a tyre place and getting them take a look?

Logically there are only 2 answers:

1. You have a puncture of some kind.
2. Someone is letting them down.

If you can rule out point 2, then point 1 can be subdivided:

-leaking valves
-leaking around the seal/bead
-cracked tyres
-genuine puncture; nail/thorn type of thing

Were all four fitted at the same time? I had terrible trouble recently with my Prelude tyres losing pressure after a complete set was fitted by morons at a fast-fit centre in France who didn't bother to thoroughly clean the rims before fitting the new tyres. Experts at a specialist firm re-did the job properly and cured the problem.

I think they were all fitted at the same time (by previous owner).

Think taking it to a tyre place is the best option by the sounds of it. Sounds like I was barking up the wrong tree with the porous alloys idea!

I had similar problem with my '99 CRV. Two solutions: (1) reseal the tyre with that black sticky goo, and (2) stop bumping up on kerbs!
