Hello all,

Ive just bought myself a Honda s2000 took it for a test drive and loved it straight away. (That gear change is amazing) I now have read that it may require 98+ ron. This hasnt put me off but im just wanting some clarification.

There are people who swear by using nothing less than 98 ron but on the other hand I read somebody only ever used 95 ron as 98 wasnt available near him.

I got hold of an owners manual but it must have been American as it states 91 which equates to our 95. Will it cause long term damage using 95 ron?

Sorry for the boring subject.

Is it a UK spec or JDM? It should be fine on 95

Before 2002 facelift it's 98+ Have a look at the FAQ at www.S2ki.co.uk

My old pre 02 S2000 took 95 and said so on the cap flap

doubt 95/98 will do any harm

It will run on 95 obviously, but I have found at tick over 95 gives a bit of a misfire/rough idle. BP ultimate (97) seams to work the best (better than Tesco momentum (99)). I have only tried the new shell 99 ron for half tank and seamed to be the same as BP. I think momentum gives slightly better mpg than BP but is definitely a bit less smooth.

The above may only be particular to my engine.

My 2000 reg. specially stated 98. But the point you make is a good one. Check the fuel flap or manual.

My 2004 says 98 on the fuel flap, so thats what I put it, it hardly makes a difference over a tankful anyway.

Cheers everybody,
Ive had a couple of weeks with the car now and absolutely love it. It states 98 / 95 on the filler cap and have tried both. I havent noticed much difference with the amount of miles per tank between the 2 fuels but I have noticed it sounds a bit rougher on 95.
Recommend this car to anybody though!

If its mapped on 95,98 is a waste of money.

My 2001 (UK model) was happiest on 98 but would run on 95 with no discernible problems.

Hey good luck with I had mine 3 weeks now love it. Great car with fantastic engine I previous have had supra tt and 350z wrx and this is most fun. Ye low down is only nippy but 9000rpm and v tec makes up for it if you want a nice noise take your air box cover off it wilp sound like a induction kit due to them having cones already but will get heat soak like most induction kits. But if you not racing who cares

Does it not say inside the fuel cap?

Mine clearly states USE 97 RON or HIGHER inside the flap (2006 model)
