Hello Everybody!

Ok, First thing's first - I bought my first Honda S2000 two days ago! I love it, so hurray for me.

I might have a problem though - I tucked her up after I collected her (and had a sly hoon) and heard this intermittent hum/buzz (it sounds like a hidden mobile phone on vibrate) every 10 seconds or so from behind the seats or bulkhead…
I looked around for a while but eventually after poking a few buttons, I assumed it was normal…

I went to take her out this morning and the battery was as flat as a pancake… I’m just concerned it’s the hood motor continually burning out or something??

Any help would be massively appreciated… I feel like an inept parent with a new baby!

Cheers,

Ivor.

Hmmm.

Have you checked the interior boot light isn't shorting out etc. I've seen a couple of cars (not S2000s) where it doesn't turn off, leaving a dead battery.

The obvious question is that you are sure the buzz isn't a vibration caused by road surface, certain revs or even music - sorry it sounds simple, but I have one or two buzzes that occur at certain times.

Your problem doesn't seem to be a common one, maybe someone else can add something?

Yeah - the forums seem to be coming up short... which is very unsual.

No, I can only hear the hum when the engine is off anyway. (and the dead battery has closed down the effing radio, so now I need to phone up for a keycode!)

I will definitly look into the boot light though.

Three thoughts:-
1) Hood motor was my first - that is back there somewhere. 10s could easily be the cycle time. See if it does it with the handbrake OFF, as the handbrake is connected to a safety lock-out for the hood. If it only does it with handbrake on, then that points to the motor.

2) Main relay on the NSX is behind the bulkhead, not sure where it is on S2000 - would assume engine bay though.

3) Fuel pump. Think the tank is behind the seats/under the hood-stowage. Not sure why that would be buzzing though...although that said, on first turning the ignition to 'on' you'll hear the pump prime on a lot of cars...does it sound like that?

How old is the battery. My original battery was 8 years old [I couldn't believe it] when it started playing games.

It would occasionally not turn the engine over in the middle of a day running around, with good distances between stops. Leave it for half an hour & it would work again. Jump or push start the thing & it would be good for another month.

Ultimately found one cell dying

Afternoon everybody,

After a few days of keeping an eye on it, asking other owners (including the chap I bought it from) and endless Googling... I have come to the conclusion that it is the Fuel Pump making the noise and I must have left the radio/lights or something on when I garaged her for a couple of days which ran down the battery... which is small after all.

I've still not descerned why the pump is running for a while after i've turned off the ignition, or if it is normal on other cars - but it appears that it isn't doing anything harmfull and does eventually stop...

Thanks to everybody for having a think about it and getting back to me. I have her up for a service on Monday the 3rd - so she'll be tucked up until then.
The guy I bought her from didn't miss-treat at all, but never got it serviced in 3 years/15k... so the oil is like water and is utterly cooked.

Can't wait for the clean bill of health and then it's destination VTEC!

This always frustrates me. I had similar on mine - The guy owned it for 18 months, did 5k in the first year, 1k in the last 6 months, but never bothered to service it? WHY? Don't people realise you NEED to service cars often - ESPECIALLY something high performance that revs to 9000 rpm! the oil needs to be cleaner than clean.

It really annoys me.
