I've recently returned to the UK after 20 years in the US and was a big fan of 92-2001 civics over there and had a couple of EG hatches. As i've started to look for a ride over here the EG was a 1st choice, but I was shocked to find almost none for sale on the major classified sites. Is it just that they have all be scrapped and rusted out? or was the EG not in wide production in the UK? Or was in an import only? I'd never seen Aerodeck Civics until I cam here - was that the only domestic offering in 92-95?

I'm currently debating an EP3, but to be honest id be quite happy with a rust free EG (with a B18 swap smile )

Just curious!

Very rare in the UK. The few that are here tend to get "stanced out" or modified with the cheapest, crappiest parts available.

I am partly to blame. I rolled a lovely 1994 SIR import with just 20k miles on the clock in 1999. Sorrygetmecoat

There are still a few around. Check out www.civiclife.net for a great UK community and have a look around the For Sale section as they do pop up!

Still a few around, lots of billy basic models though.

I have an EG1 Del Sol!

the EG's all seamed to disappear about 3 years ago i noticed, one day there were loads around and then the next they were all gone.

Rust was a big killer unsurprisingly, like all 90's jap cars, they just werent made for our salty roads plus some terrible water dispersion designs it wasnt too long till they start rusting at the arches.
Ireland seem to have snapped up most of the remaining few, aswell as a lot of jap classics and then add in the exchange rate meaning they are no longer any SIR's being imported, they are now a finite resource.

its a shame really, i was really looking forward to a standard b16 eg when i could insure one, and by the time i could they were like gold dust unfortunately alot of them got the stance/jdm treatment. so i ended up with an dc2 instead, although i love it i cant help pining for what could of been.

i am personally responsible for taking an lsi off the road, but lsi's were terrible anyway.

so i bought another one, oh to be young again.

Thanks for the replies lads, really unfortunate that these weren't more widely spread in the UK - I'd take an old EG over just about any other 90s hot hatch. Funny that Ireland has so many - its actually Donegal that I saw the last one on the road last year!

I'll check out civic life - but looks like my hopes are dashed of ever finding one to drive over here - the few i've seen are either stripped out, tarted out or rusted out beyond hope ;(

I still see them about, must still be thousands around, but like any older car - it costs money to keep it going. If it's nothing special and just a run of the mill 20 year old hatch back, as soon as a big bill comes, the owner is going to scrap it. You can thank the scrappage scheme a few years ago for removing our roads of so many sub £1k cars. I imagine it spelt the death of many a perfectly working EG civic.

This was my EG...

...until a tyre blow-out caused its crash.

Its a shame there getting rare, I'm saving for another one (I never had a chance to get mine to the spec I wanted).

I sold it a while back. I wish I'd kept it though, I sold it for about £500 or about the price I paid for the Spoon exhurst system! But I needed the room and money for its replacement. frown

Loads seem to get banger raced unfortunately frown

Same is happening with EK's too, see a hell of a lot of both types whenever I go to watch frown

I think my next car might have to be one, I absolutely love them and have wanted one for ages. The interiors are really cool, they feel really low, long and wide when you're sat in them.

Saw a standard one last night, can't remember the last time I saw one like that, but they used to be absolutely everywhere.
