I have an 07 Civic, (the 2.2 diesel) as per the thread title, and noticed the other day when I was washing the car that if I lean on the windscreen at the base, just above the scuttle, I can flex it quite impressively. There's always been a dash rattle from that area, so I suspect I've found the source. My question would be whether this is a Honda/Civic thing, in that it's normal for the car, or whether it shouldn't be flexing like that?

The scuttle does rub on t windscreen. I took mine off and stuck a thin layer of rubber on the end to stop it rubbing.

The bottom of the screen is (or should be) bonded to part of a frame. The bottom is surprisingly flimsy without a screen in it. May be nothing to worry about; worse case scenario is that the screen is not bonded correctly (factory fit failure, or botched by a replacement monkey).

For clarity, it's not the scuttle that I'm moving, it's the actual screen that I can flex...? Should it not be stuck a little more firmly to the frame/scuttle than that?

Do we assume you're getting the flex when pressing/pushing from the outside?

Yep, sorry, should have added that - can't reach to give it a shove from the inside due to the shape of the dash.

Owing to the curvature of glass and the way it is fitted (bonded with Polyurethane) there should be no movement, certainly not visible to the eye.

Can you tell me what brand of glass it is (ignore the numbers)?

(it should be bottom r/h corner)

Just says Honda and Pilkington, and E1 in a circle. Is that what you meant?

Yes. It may well be the original factory fitted screen, but not definite. I'd like to gain a better understanding of where the movement is and how much.

Will PM you my number.
