Hi,

I recently had my mechanic change the oil and filter on my civic, and I thought I would change the plugs and leads myself as it seems like quite a straightforward job, and I happen to have use of a plug wrench

If I but the specific plugs for my motor, like these do I have to "set the gap" or anything like that or can I just undo the old ones and bolt these ones in?

Any advice is greatly appreciated, never done a job like this before but I want to start doing more stuff like this to keep it in tip top condition

The gap should be pre-set. It is always wise to check them with a feeler gauge just to be sure before fitting.

Otherwise it is a case of removing the coils/leads. Blow out and debris with an air line if you have one and then undo the old and screw in the new. Be very careful not to cross thread when you put the new ones in. I sometimes use a piece of hose to start them off. It will slip if the thread crosses as you wont be able to apply enough pressure.

Tighten them to the specified torque, which can be found in the Haynes manual or a quick google will throw it up.

Recently done mine with NGK plugs and double checked before installing. Ranged between .9mm & 1.2mm out the box so definitely worth checking!
