Getting together the necessary bits and bobs to give my Civic a decent service, but a bit confused as to what gearbox oil to use.

Haynes, Autodata and my handbook all tell me to use "Honda Manual Transmission Fluid" which is all well and good, but proving a PITA to get hold of locally. I don't mind ordering off eBay, but before I do that, does anybody know what the equivalent fluid would be if I was to buy a different brand?

T'internet so far hasn't yielded much - some people claim 10-30 will do the trick but others have said 75-80. A little confused to say the least!

I can tell you if you give me some more details. Engine size, car year or better yet the gearbox code will be brilliant.

Cheers.

It's a 2003 Civic Vtec SE 1590cc. I did Google which box these had, looks like it might be D16V1 although not 100% sure.

Thanks smile

Manned up and put in some MTF-3, although at £14 per litre thought it was a bit on the pricey side!
