Convince me that a DC5 is the way forward, how do they feel? Do they feel big inside? Speed wise, round corners etc, exciting, responsive?

Thanks

Sam

Compared to what? It's a type r. Not sure what more convincing you need.

Edit - go sit in one.

Im coming from an EF8 caged Crx with bucket seats etc, but ideally want a newer version of the same
feeling! I've asked around and can't find anyone near to go get a feel of the car, and don't want to waste anyone's time selling one. So just thought I'd get a few opinions from
Anyone that does have one about them. No harm in asking!

Not an owner but I would love one, I just can't justify spending that much cash on one with residuals so strong

Im looking at one at the moment as well, had a DC2 before which i loved then swapped it for an S2000 which has been ok but not nearly as good.

Would be interested in some opinions on what they are like as a daily, read enough to be convinced on the b road abilities.

Also is there anyone in the bucks/oxford area who would be willing to take me out or just show me around one?

Just a couple of answers to your questions.

Do they feel big inside? Not to bad inside in terms of space although the head room in the rear isn't the best for tall passangers due to the shape of the car. It does have a really big boot which is more than enough to get bags and stuff in if your going away. I managed to lay a 32inch tv which was all boxed completly flat in my boot no problem at all.

Speed wise? Enough power to drive quickly without using Vtec, but when you want it then it's more than quick enough. Will do 60 in 6 seconds and will hit 150.

round corners etc? Handling wise, i purchased mine with spoon springs but the handling is awesome. Even when your on the limit the car gives such good feedback you can feel exactly what's going on. Plus the car has a factory limited slip differential which helps even more combined with the hydraulic power steering which the uk type r's don't have.

exciting? Having owned the car for 4 years now, it never fails to put a smile on my face when i go out in it. The car is a real blast to drive but can also be used as a daily drive when you need to. responsive? If you have driven a type r before you will know how responcive the vtec engines are. The throttle responce is instant that combined with the gearbox is a perfect combination.

any more questions feel free to ask

There pretty practical, very good sized boot, rear seats fold down. Tax is usually 215quid which is a good chunk cheaper than other cars of similar performance/age/power, etc. Pretty good on fuel, will average 30mpg, unless you drive like a lunatic 100%.

The engine is responsive, great throttle response. There pretty quick, but don't expect to leave Focus ST's and other hot hatches for dead, not much torque, and similar power, etc, etc. In the bends they are very good, sharp handling and plenty of grip, LSD is nice.

Recaro front seats are the best seats ive ever sat in, and they look fantastic. They can wear badly on the bolsters so check that, but it's an easyish fix if the rest of the car matches up. Brakes are good, but id reccomend some braided lines and some good quality pads, will improve the feel 10 fold, the standard discs and calipers and excellent.

Parts are quite often the same as the EP3 as there very similar, some bits can be a pain to get hold off, but Honda will source pretty much anything, just might take a bit longer as it often comes from a warehouse in Belguim i believe. Tyres are only 215/45/17's.

The engine is great IMO. Revs to 8400rpm on the standard ECU and sounds great. Don't believe the idiots. The car will make decent progress for casual driving if not in VTEC. A decent catback and airfilter and the car really does sound nice.

Uses HID lights which are very good considering age of car.

Seating position i found was very low compared to a EP3, felt like a Lotus at first lol and the steering is much better than uk type r's, it's heavy with more feel.

Insurance can be a bh, and make sure the oil is at the top of the dipstick, and always check the gearbox. Mine started producing notchyness when really giving it the beans and shifting quickly, it's the syncro's i think.

There are lots of mods for them, and they respond very well to breathing mods and the usual bolt ons, though brand new mods tend to be very expensive. Decent mods and a Kpro remap will usually see between 240-260bhp with 170lbs.

They have come down price a bit in the last 18 months, and there still rare enough to make ownership a bit more special than most normal hatchbacks in the UK IMO.

They do the daily driver bit well as there a lot nicer to be in than a DC2, etc and cabin noise isn't to bad. The ride can be harsh on OEM springs and coilovers, etc, the best and most popular method is eibach springs, i had them on mine and it definatly made the ride a little more pleasant, it's no jag though.

If you're a fan of Type R's get one, prefferably one with a few choice mods.

Just to agree/mirror what the two above good posts say and to add:

They actually rev to 8600rpm (not 8400), sorry to be pedantic.
And I disagree on the brake pads. I find OEM Honda/Brembo pads to be best for road use. And yes, I have tried the DS2500s, prefer the Brembos.

Not on a standard ECU, it's 8400rpm. It might read a bit more on your dials.....

After changing to Mintex 1144 pads i thought the braking was transformed myself, though i did add braided hoses at the same time.

It's 8400rpm mate, I spoke to Paul West at tdi north about it, it's 200rpm more than the EP3.

I crashed it. frown

Also no problem, glad to help.

I had one of these and it was so nice that someone decided to steal it. Drove it around Europe, used it for daily drive and hooning. Made every drive an adventure. If you still wondering if you want one... you are doing it wrong.

Couple of words.
Fantastic cars. Regret the day I ever got rid of mine. Best drivers car, except my SC Elise that I've had to date. I once managed 40mpg!!
