Honda FR-V with Civic Gearbox?
Discussion
A colleague form work has recently purchased a FR-V - no criticizing him now!
He has an AA inspection on it and they mentioned that the gearbox felt a bit tight...
He brought this up with the guy he purchased it from and he offered him £100 off the purchase price towards later getting the cables replaced.
The day after buying the car the chap took the car to the local Honda garage to have a full service and to get them to have a good look over the car and make sure that is no major problems that have been missed.
A mechanic from the garage has called up this lunchtime after investigating the gearbox issue and has said the gearbox has "Civic" written on it... He checked the part numbers and it doesn’t match any codes for a FR-V gearbox.
The car drives, work as it should although a little tight... But if this is a civic gearbox, will this be an issue?!
Are Honda a bit like most manufactures and make identical parts with different numbers just for different cars?!
He's obviously a little confused about what to do with the situation as his wife and kids will be using the car...
Any advice would be helpful!

I believe all engines in any manufacturer are swaped around within the range of cars they sell so you might find the 1.8 and 2.0 can be found in the civic, accord and CRV although in a slight different state of tune.
Not so sure about gearboxes but would expect to find some gearboxes fitted across all models.
I can only 100% comment on the 1.7 as I own one and did a lot of research on the FRV before I purchased it.
Mark.

Honda engine series and gearboxes generally come in a set - ie, any gearbox intended for any D-series engine will bolt up to any other D-series engine.
So, yes the gear ratios are likely to be different but it should bolt up and work mechanically perfect in theory.
ETA, the D-series (and boxes) have been around since the 80s in (probably) hundreds of different sizes, tunes, ratios, etc. Although I think the FRV was the last car in the uk to use one as the D series was effectively replaced with the R-series in 2006.
