Hi lads.....when i drive approx between 30- 80ish mph i can hear a dull whirling sound coming from my rear wheels it doesnt change pitch its just a constant drone type sound....although the car drives perfectly in everyway......i took it to a known garage and after going with me for a drive they also heard this noise and said it wasnt a wheel bearing as the noise would change pitch with speed ( which it doesnt ) they put the cause to the rear tyres they used a term something like shimming or shining of the centre section of the rear tyres....although these tyres are quite new never had this problem before when the tyres were brand new. it started about 6mths ago and its still the same now no noisier or quietier the sound has stayed constant thru out does anybody have any clues to what this problem is could the garage be correct in saying its the rear tyres.......any help would be very greatfully accepted.........the car is a 2005 civic type r rear tyres are 215/35 kumho's both tyres have good even tread approx 8mm on both rears.......many thanks in advanced.....

I used to get a whiring noise from Yokohama Parada tyres above 50mph. I changed my tyres to Continentals and no noise now.

My Civic Type R also developed this type of noise a couple of years back, which sounded very much like a worn out wheel bearing. It turned out that one of the rear wheels was out of alignment (probably caused by a pot hole) causing the tyre to wear excessively on the inner edge, and the noise was all down to this.
A 4 wheel alignment and a pair of new rear tyres was what was needed to get it sorted.
