My (well the OH's) Honda 2002 Jazz seems to have a factory HID fitted - Overlooking the fact that, despite the Haynes Manual, I have precisely no idea how to change the bulb, I am a little stumped as to where to get a bulb from.

Can anyone help with changing the bulb and/or where to source one from?

Thanks

JTW

The car's at the Rotherham dealer and they are stumped - apparently they ARE HIDs of some description and aren't sure if they can just swap the bulbs as they can't find the looms that may or may not support this.

They are saying the only way to be sure is to take off the bumper and remove the headlights to find out.

Arse.

It's HIDs you Ta... getmecoat

I have seen a Honda Jazz with HIDs but I thought they were aftermarket and just swapped the bulb out for the customer.

It was a long while ago so I can't remember the exact method, but as a rough guide, most HID lamps are twisted in. Remove the rear cover and electrical plug, rotate the lamp counter-clockwise and withdraw it.

There should be a part number on the lamp like D2R or D4R, match this up with a new lamp and fitting is the reverse of removal.

Obviously, getting to the lamps is the main problem and it's getting more and more common to have to remove bumpers etc to gain access.

HTH,

John.

smile Thanks

Apparently the way to get to the bulb is through the wheel arch lining:

I might try this at the weekend to have a proper look.

Failing that, I'll do the reverse of this:

No no. - they can, they can, they just couldn't identify the bulb.

Found this little lot:

And this HID:

After a bit of digging I've found the original wiring and plug - now I need to get the bloody wheel off to fit the bulb. Arse.

Thank you Mr Honda Dealer...

Thank you to the arse that fitted the HIDs - I've wasted about 3 hours on this. They're out now with normal bulbs fitted - That you have to jack the car up, remove the wheel, lie under the car and shove your head in to the wheel arch to even make this doable is utterly ridiculous.

This is what was in - now cut out with the ballasts left as I'm not taking the bumpers off just for that...

Note - It took me about an hour to work out that the Lens mounts in the bottom left were even there and that was why I couldn't get the new bulb in.

Has the car been MOT'd this year? They kept moving the implementation date, and I'm not sure whether it's been done now, but it should have failed MOT for having aftermarket HIDs with a washing and leveling system.

The HID (and a few other things) rules are in the 2102 MOT - supposed to be from Jan but got delayed to April, then 'Summer' and looks like it's still on hold: http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/car-servicing...

The airbag warning light item was scaring a lot of people with older cars as it could write the car off.
