Thinking of getting an S2000 soon as a fun car. I wont do anything to it other than lowering springs if it makes a big difference though I would like an induction kit like an AEM V2 to hear the vtec...what I like about induction kits is you only hear them when you put your foot down, unlike drony exhausts that get on my nerves.

So I am wondering what year onwards is best ? I have seen a black 06 with 50k FHSH, completely standard, good tyres...its been looked after.

My plan is to keep my a3 tdi for the winter and then get one of these for spring/summer and then sell it and get an a3 again. I get bored after about 5 months anyway.

Is there anything to look out for, how tuneable are they, and should I take all the RWD horror stories with a pinch of salt?

Thanks

Basically the later the car the less "edgy" it is, Honda made revisions throughout the S2000s life to make it less of a handful on the limit.

I have a 05 which has the 17" wheels and the mild facelift (amongst other things). Dont get too concerned about the RWD scare stories, the car is very snappy on the limit but you have to be trying pretty hard to get yourself in trouble, i think its got too much grip if anything.

Main thing to watch out for is the seized suspension alignment bolts and make sure the owner checks the oil often. Engine wise they arnt very tuneable apart from increasing the noise.

Make sure you check insurance quotes as they are usually pretty expensive.

There's plenty of info on the s2ki website, and in their FAQ, http://www.s2kuk.com/technical/faq/s2000_tech_faq_...

2004 models onward are the facelift models with 17" wheels are revised suspension. 2006 onward have optional VSA traction control, and you pay the higher tax rate. There's plenty more detailed buyer info on the s2ki site.

You can just take the lid off the airbox if you want to hear the vtec noise smile

I've not taken my car on a track, but I can say i've not had a problem with rear end grip in the dry on the road. You obviously have to be a bit more careful in the wet, but good tyres and correct geo set up improve stability a lot.

Try Sky Insurance for a quote. They were considerably lower than the comparison site quotes for me.

OP don't worry about winter, get a set of the early 16" wheels with winter tyres and hey presto you can drive all year round (plus you get to do RWD snow drifting in empty car parks, which is very very good fun).
I use the S daily to commute, have driven in all conditions; I'm no driving God but have never really had any scary moments unless I really act like a tit!
