Hi there,
Reasonably new to the forum, just recent sold my civic type R and now looking at getting something a bit more economical. Been looking at the Honda civic 2.2 diesel engines. I've searched for other threads about the 2.2 diesel engines however, couldn't find any threads so apologies in advanced if there are other threads just haven't found them.
Are there any known faults with this type of engine? What is it like to drive?
Any help and advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Just added this Honda forum to my favorites, being a regular over on the Aston forum (my weekend car).
I'm collecting my first Honda on Thursday - a Type S 2.2 diesel, to replace my Golf GTi Edition 30 which has been my everyday car for the last 3 years.
The Type S is great with lots of options but is missing the all important (to me) heated seats that my Ed30 has. The Type S has cloth seats but is it easy (relatively cheap) to have heated seats added without going leather? Is the wiring loom already present and it just needs the switch and heating element adding to the seat or is it more complex than this?
I will add pics of my Cerulean Blue Type S after collection.
Cheers - Phil

Having had one a few months I find that it's a good engine. Known issues are the clutch and dmf failure if you go around at 10/10ths or if you remap and it can be a bit of a oil drinker however I keep forgeting to check. Other than that I cant think of anything.
I'm supprised that you S-type has no heated seats I thought they where standard to all the models as my SE has them.

I rather liked mine. Nice linear power delivery and one of the most refined in the class too. No DPF issues (clogging up with short journeys, etc) as it doesn't have one. Rear visibility poor (but good mirrors), I was glad of having parking sensors. Ride quality pretty bad too, but I guess it depends what you're used to - I came from a very hard Alfa 156 Veloce so thought it was fine at the time, but driving other cars since shows how awful it was.
Some people have issues with clutches but to be honest I don't think it's any worse than anything else.

My wife has a 2.2 which we bought new, its coming up to been 5 years old and we've done over 50K with no faults. Not bad grunt from the engine, economical, very practical but not really a drivers car and a world away from any Type R. The brakes are horrible (very little feel, and really don't like been worked hard), rolls alot in turns but yet the ride is still quite harsh, the best thing about the noise the engine makes is that the cabin is well insulated you don't really hear the rattle (unless stationary, in which case the whole car rattles to remind you its a diesel ).
For a family car its great, but am glad I don't have to drive ours all that often....

Picked my Type S up yesterday, managed 62.5mpg on the drive back from Worcester to Blackburn!! Picks to follow this weekend.
I thought the SD card slot behind the sat nav would play my music but it doesn't! Has anyone found a way how to get "the car" to read SD cards?
Also - CD tracks - why the hell can you not pause the music? Bizarre. Or am i missing something?
Only minor niggles though.
