CRV Petrol or Diesel

My wife wants a CRV but I do not know which one to buy manual or diesel. The car needs to be automatic and she drives around 7000 miles a year. Also are CRV better than let say a Lexus 400 h ?

I just noticed that honda are now offering a complimentary upgrade on the CRV to the top spec, having driven both I was impressed with the diesel auto and the 2011 model year onwards has the new i-dtec with 10 more bhp and much better emissions. I foresee it being much cheaper than a 400h!

i've just bought a crv... we do less than 10k a year and petrol works out cheaper for us.

at 7k it's a no-brainer towards petrol.

are you buying new or used?

Hi if you require used CRV, the 2.2DTec Auto did not arrive untill 10ish plate so are £20k and up.

The 2.0 EX AUTO [top of the range], started at 56 plate for the current model.

Definatley go for petrol, there is only 4/5 mpg difference in economy and for your mileage it has to be petrol really, even with a free upgrade on new crv's the diesel is still about £2100 cheaper,also doing low mileage the DPF will clogg and cause you problems in the long run.

I got a 57 plate Petrol EX Auto with 8k on the clock - now done 25k. One of the smoothest autos I've ever driven - even smoother than a VP Princess 4litre "R". The only criticism of the new CRV against the older ones (I had a 99 plate before) is that the interior plastics scratch very easily. My 25k miler has more scratches on the door surfaces and seat belt pillar than my 140k miler 99 plate.

But I'd still never have any other car than a Honda for comfort & reliability. And the "double decker" boot is simply brilliant, as is the HiFi. New sat nav disc is a bit expensive though - but as I rarely use it, I don't really mind sticking with the old one.

My average mileage is 29 -30 mpg - but this is NOT city driving - mostly country roads and occasional motorway
