It doesn't do it if stationary and I go lock to lock.

I've had gearbox oil replaced. To no avail.

I had TGM in Fleet have a look and they said clutch related, however it was at Honda today for a wheel bearing and they suggested it was diff related.

The clutch is far from perfect but it works and id be pretty annoyed if I spent £450 on a clutch and it's still mullered!

Car is currently booked in at TGM for a clutch on Wednesday.

Car is a 98 ukdm dc2. 115k

I'm hoping it's a clutch...... I hear diff are über $$$$

Any ideas??

Errr copy/paste fail... Sorry!

In full:

Chaps,

when I'm pulling away 1st/2nd I'm getting a slight whine / ticking / clicking (I'm reluctant to say grind as its not bad) it feels like something is slipping.
it doesn't do it when I'm dead straight and pull away,
it doesn't do it if I coast along out of gear
It doesn't do it if stationary and I go lock to lock.

Just to add to this, my clutch went on mine ( Ironically at 115k) and the noise you describe is exactly what I had. Quick clutch change at TGM and all was good again.
The section of plate surrounding the spring on the plate is a known weak point, so I imagine its that.

Bingo. Picked it up today from Tom at TGM. Clutch plate was destroyed. The bits that hold the 4 springs in place had split so the springs were free to move about. One was so bad it had ground off about 3mm from a spring! Noise all gone now.

Very happy chappy.

Top service again from TGM!

Glad you have it sorted; my clutch went a month ago (just over 100k), no noise though just hard to get into gears whilst moving. Turned out the clutch plate was broken (a small part about the size of 2p).

Ended up with a new Honda clutch and flywheel skimmed.

It really is a great car; I love mine.

It's one of those cars that when you drive it to and from work every day it becomes boring and I start to think about ditching. Then one day I'll work late so on the way home I've got all the country roads to myself, then it all makes sense again!

Indeed, not that the Teg' is an awful place to be, much more comfortable and refined than my old 106 wink

Glad you got it sorted and it wasn't the diff. I stupidly went for a Stage 1 clutch and lightweight flywheel. Great when in the mood but nightmare in traffic. biggrin

Going to enjoy it for a month or 2 then I'm going to jump ship I think. Spent a fortune getting up to scratch.

Going to get something new/cheap and then save for something as a second car / track hack.

I test-drove one with upgraded clutch and couldn’t get on with it. It’s like an on/off switch and tricky to drive smoothly in traffic. Hence when mine broke I replaced it with another Honda clutch.
