Hi guys,

I've recently bought an S2000 and the engine has developed a knocking noise, so in need of a replacement engine.

After already receiving one dodgy motor from a breakers in Dewsbury, seems as though getting hold of one is more difficult than you'd think.

Are there any reputable Honda/ S2000 breakers, or a reputable salvage yard anyone could recommend for an untouched non-reconditioned engine?

Can you rebuild the engine, what do you need a new bottom end and bearings and shells?

I think by the time I start going down the route of rebuilding including labour it would be more economical to just buy a low mileage engine.

Just struggling to find a breakers yard not run by p*keys!

Problem is you will never know how the engine has been treated/serviced unless it is very low mileage.

Who has diagnosed the problem? Was it lack of oil? Speak to Tom Gannon at TGM Sport he may be able to advise and is an all round helpful chap.

Try S2KUK, and post a topic in the for sale/wanted forum. Watch out for late model 2008/09 engines though as they appear to have problems, sometimes terminal. Search the forum for further info.

I've spoken with TGM, not sure who, was an old chap who was very helpful - he actually advised on swapping the motor. Think its likely spun rod bearing which is causing the knocking.

Squatting neville - are you a garage or worked with F20's before? Worst case is new bearings, and grounding work for the crank and cylinder walls so I've been told. I'm based in Southampton.

I've got a friendly garage who advised it would be simpler to do an engine swap, its just proving a problem being able to source one genuine as breakers so far can't seem to be trusted as far as you can throw them.

Forget about rebuilding it, the cylinder walls have a coating that makes them impossible to hone, any scoring at all and the block will basically need to be re-sleeved.

TGM is a cracking garage and is where I get all my servicing done, you can be sure Tom there will look after you.

It is normally a spun 4th bearing that lets go on these engines.
