Has anyone here put an induction kit on a civic 1.6 vtec 2004 model.it will give more space in engine as it removes the air filter box and air feed pipe and the the box that goes into I guess its to muffle the sound and slow the air down? As factory restrict the cars slightly, managed to get 38 bhp extra on my mates c230k with a few home mods.

I've seen them the one I think I need for £200 anybody seen any cheaper? Thanks russ

38bhp?! Was it NA? Bloody hell, what mods were they!? Did you get a dyno for that, that is almost unheard of on a NA engine to get that amount of power with basic breathing mods.

I don't think you will get any more power out of a 1.6 ltr engine with an induction kit to be honest, unless you go for the K&N FIPK or cold air intake kits then you will just have massive heat soak and lose power. I wouldn't bother and would spend your money on getting the car chipped instead.

I'd save your money, you'll be getting noise and not a whole let else at this level. Noise is a good thing, but if you go for an inherently compromised kit like a K&N Typhoon or a AEM short ram you will want to look into a heatshield of some sort. Heatsoak will sap your power at low speeds or if you've been sitting in traffic for a while, but once you are on the move it becomes a bit of a none-issue on an NA car in our climate. An induction kit, even heatshielded and with a cold air intake won't transform your car though, you certainly won't be chasing Type Rs down.

I'd be interested to know what these "home made" mods were to your friend's car were though.

Thanks for the replys,it was c230 kompressor, the fuel vapour has a lot of oil in it and for the factory to send the car it,it has to send them back into the car this reduces performance so put a pipe with the vapours going out of the car as its only a factory req not an mot and inside the throttle there was a wire mesh restricting air we took that out as it had an ind kit to stop any crap going in it,and few bits that he done to it,did you ever read redline mag,its my friend stavs old car he was the deputy writer there

So you removed the PCV and oil breather and removed some mesh/induction kit and got 38bhp?! Did you remap it or anything? Dyno?

Ill ask him next time I speak to him,its surprising the amount they limit they're cars to,a lot of cars have same engines but they limit certain models as to not effect the higher models when you can just map them to match,my mate got 35 bhp increase from 402 on his car which was good, dyno'd before an after for proof as a lot of them can bs what they say it does

ah so you remapped it as well, that makes more sense!

You could easily get that out of a boosted engine if you had it remapped.

biggrin

Lol when did I say I mapped the c230k, I said my friend mapped his car which already had 400 bhp to start with.

I don't think the c230k has 400 bhp standard does it lol

Well i'm back to confused street then, 40ish bhp is a huge amount for removing the oil breathers and some mesh without a remap. Very strange.
