New S2000 Owner!
Discussion
I took delivery of my new S2000 today, so far so good but I do have a couple of questions that I am hoping you can help me with.
The car is a 2008 and came with a hardtop. Not had a chance to drive the car without it yet, but it seems to make a lot of noise, creaking/squeaking a lot from the rear of the roof. Is this normal?
Just looking in the manual and it seems to be suggesting the car needs to run on super unleaded (98 RON). Do most people use it, or are people happy with how their cars run on standard 95 RON?

I run mine on V Power and Momentum 99, i.e. high octane. The car is so much smoother with it than on 95 and more fuel economical as well, but tbh, I couldn't care less about mpg, I am more into smiles per mile which the S2k delivers, and then some!
For the squeeks, try lubing your seals (ooo matron!) with some Shin Etsu Grease, it is a silicon based grease and is quite expensive, you can get it from Chiltern Connections and eBay I think. Apparently Maplins also sell a silicon grease which is just as good but a quarter of the price so you could try there first if you want. If that doesn't work, then head on over to S2Ki as there is a mod you can do to tighten up the hard top catches and that makes it better still. But usually the grease sorts it.
Finally, there is a big community here:-

And we like pictures! There is also an owners club which does some pretty good discounts, membership is £10 a year and you can make that back and then some on just insurance and tyres so worth it if you are looking for that!

All the best and welcome to an increasingly rare club! Be sure to give an S2k driver a wave when you see them, the cars are getting rarer and rarer now half of them end up in ditches and trees over the winter! Oh that's the other thing, be VERY careful in the wet weather we are going to have this week, I think your model has traction control, which should help but just take it easy with a relatively high performance RWD car with 50/50 weight distribution but a notoriously snappy rear end when you don't drive it with respect!

I filled mine with 95 octane unleaded last week as I couldnt get 98 as it says in the fuel flap. It didnt make a difference at all.
My roof was noisy, ive put rubber hose on the clips which have the same effect as putting spacers under the catches. Its made a big difference.
Ive just stuck a new Kenwood CD player in mine. I bought a patch lead off ebay for £18 and the controls all work as normal. Very easy to fit.
I just need to change the terrible speakers which just distort next.

you wouldn't with one tank full, it is if you run it on unleaded 95 all the time you tend to find the car splutters and bogs down a bit when you pull away. On 99 it doesn't. Try both and see what you think. I know the 2004 cars onwards were much more tolerant of 95, but most people still say >98 is better
Nice motor, looks like its Royal navy blue - my favourite colour

Also guessing from your username you are in the southwest - whereabouts? I'm in wells, somerset, there are a few of us who meet up and go for a spin every month or two.

I will do some tests over the coming weeks and see what I find. I had to put a small amount of 95 in on Sunday as that is all I could get (fuel warning light was on)russy01 said:

Bridport not too far then. You'll have to get on s2ki and come along to the odd local spin.
